Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems 9GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Senior Usability Researcher.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  GDMS employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Supports the development of individual product/system components, and provides context for their interaction
  • Creates, evaluates, and modifies prototypes, user personas, operational scenarios, and process maps to support product and system development, with emphasis on operational context, interaction, physical manipulation, and task analysis
  • Develops product/system design concepts and implementation specifications, providing context on usability considerations
  • Develops and applies usability design principles in the investigation of technical problems
  • Produces specifications describing product/system requirements, based on user input and operational analysis
  • Identifies creative alternatives when presented with barriers to progress
  • Contributes to efforts focused on optimizing tasks, resources, and deliverables in support of projects/programs 
  • Mid-to-senior-level individual technical contributor
  • Requires less detailed direction from supervisor, demonstrates growing decision-making capabilities
  • Participates as active member of project team on challenging projects/programs
  • Security clearance may be required
  • Travel is required and may be up to 50%


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Learns, and applies intermediate principles, theories and concepts of research and/or design
  • Very solid communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Very solid ability to apply knowledge effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback

PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in Design, Psychology, Systems Engineering with experience in human centered design research and application is desired.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
