Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Reliability, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials engineering, or a related technical field, or the equivalent experience is required.


Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Reliability Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



  • Statistical background and experience associated with development of system reliability models and sparing models in support system reliability, maintainability and availability requirements. This also includes RMA modeling updates that tracks and updates engineering and logistics developments and related changes
  • Reliability and Maintainability Prediction Methodologies using tools such as 217Plus or equivalent to develop predictions based on generic data supported by basic environmental adjustments (temperature, quality, stress, and environment)
  • Reliability, Maintainability and Availability Modeling for serial, redundant (Binomial based) and complex modeling requiring techniques other than those required for serial and redundant systems. Experience with modeling tools such as (examples) those developed by ReliaSoft or PTC Windchill to develop more complex model
  • Participates in Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) efforts for complex systems
  • FRACAS use and implementation on systems and the related failure review boards and inclusion in the System Engineering process. This includes coordination with Logistics and System Engineering for Obsolescence issues requiring adjustment to RMA and Logistics documentation
  • Analyzes engineering-design concepts of product to recommend design or test methods for attaining customer-specified operational reliability, using knowledge of reliability engineering and other technologies
  • Generates reliability and maintainability mathematical models and predictions
  • Advises and confers with engineers in design review meetings to give reliability and maintainability findings and recommendations
  • Generates formal technical reports per Government standards in accordance with Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) requirements 
  • Supports equipment reliability growth testing and maintainability demonstrations, including product problem resolution
  •  Participates in the development of Reliability Program Plans
  • Participates in the development of System/Product reliability models
  • Participates in testability analysis (BITE/Diagnostics/Prognostics) efforts
  • Participates in a Failure Review Board (FRB) as a team member
  • Participates in parts stress analysis/worst case analysis efforts
  • Participates in the application of Design for Reliability (DfR) techniques
  • Performs Pareto analysis of failure incidents/events for small products/systems
  • Participates in root cause analysis investigation as a team member
  • Begins to apply physics of failure technique for root cause investigations
  • Assists with projects in the completion of major programs
  • Contact with project leaders and other professionals within the Engineering department and with project teams across the company 
  • Occasional contact with business development functions
  • Good written and oral presentation skills and experience
  • Experience with DoD contracts and programs, including responding to proposals related to RMA requirements
  • Understanding the supporting and coordinating relationships between System Engineering, Logistics and RMA
  • Travel may be required
  • Security clearance may be required 


  • Ability to recognize and clearly report information relevant to Reliability engineering 
  • Good understanding of Reliability engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • Good understanding of Reliability engineering processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Learning to use in Reliability engineering tools 
  • In growth/learning phase of ability to use professional concepts
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills


  • At least Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics or related technical disciplines.  
  • Experience in the Reliability, Maintainability and Availability (RMA) Engineering field preferred
