Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

 

Additionally, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for a controlled billet in accordance with DoD Instruction 5210.42 Nuclear Weapons Personnel Reliability Program (PRP). 

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is desired at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Advanced IT Operations Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Participates in the planning of technical approaches, resources, schedule, budget and equipment required for testing and evaluating new systems, products and special devices
  • Executes the test approach and documents system verification throughout the engineering development life-cycle
  • Generate system test work products by applying the appropriate standards, processes, procedures and tools
  • Prepares test and diagnostic programs, designs test fixtures and equipment, and completes specifications and procedures for new products
  • Develops and conducts functional, environmental, operational, and/or performance tests on hardware, software, and systems
  • Assists with the design, development and implementation of cost-effective methods of testing and troubleshooting of hardware, software and systems for all phases of product development and manufacturing
  • Isolates and documents issues and defects
  • Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
  • Researches and analyzes data, such as customer design proposals, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
  • May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
  • Has some latitude in technical objectives of assignments, typical works under limited direction
  • May lead technical tasks for small teams or projects
  • May be exposed to helping engineering support proposals
  • Involved and accountable for the successful completion of major programs and projects
  • Frequent contact with managers within and outside of Engineering
  • Some contact with project teams across the company
  • Some contact with external customers and vendors
  • Recognized internally and/or externally as a subject matter expert (SME) in a particular technical area
  • Travel may be required
  • Security clearance may be required
  • Keeps abreast of technology trends
