Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense secret security clearance is required (obtainable within 24 months of hire). Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Molding Manufacturing Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Ownership of the molding process and tools for various products

  • Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products

  • Create manufacturing documentation (bills of material, travelers, work instructions, etc.)
  • Design, select, and procure fixtures, tools, and machinery
  • Implement continuous improvements to reduce defects, improve speed, and grow profitability
  • Resolve purchased material issues and disposition non-conforming assemblies
  • Provide shop floor support and training to assemblers
  • Improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
  • Develops, implements and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies
  • Leads technical tasks for medium teams or projects

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent attention to detail, follow-up, and documentation skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Office software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks
  • Strong ability to handle complex problems
  • Strong skills in multitasking, problem solving, and ethical decision making
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Eight years of polymer mold processing & optimization experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Transfer molding experience
  • Experience with long life, high reliability products
  • Experience with PRO III MRP system
