Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree. Agile experience preferred.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Active Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Submarine Combat System Test Engineer to join our team. The selected candidate will provide senior level testing support for the AN/BYG-1 Tactical Control System (TCS). This position provides an opportunity to directly support one of our nation’s core defense/intelligence systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to build and further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems software systems and applications. Key Responsibilities

Provide full time on-site testing support at the Fair Lakes Office in Fairfax, Virginia. Occasional travel is required to support testing in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and in Newport, Rhode Island.

 

Provide senior level testing support for the AN/BYG-1 Tactical Control System (TCS). Conduct Test & Evaluation (T&E) of software applications and tools for new and existing programs. Responsibilities include assisting the team with software installations, build quality checkouts, and executing formal verification test procedures. Duties include providing shift reports, test reports, system troubleshooting, verification of software bug fixes, and validating that new software implementation will meet the sailor’s needs. This position requires occasional 2nd and 3rd shift support as well as potential travel to support East Coast testing sites. Candidates are expected to provide strong work ethic with a passion to deliver high quality products to the US Navy.

 

Submarine Fire Control (FC) experience is REQUIRED.

 

Additional Requirements

Candidate should be capable of understanding and providing technical evaluation of multiple software baselines. This position requires the ability to multi-task while working independently and within dynamic team environments. Candidates must possess high attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, and Microsoft Office proficiency.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Network and system administration and troubleshooting experience in a Linux environment
  • Navy Test & Evaluation (T&E) experience
  • AN/BYG-1 Submarine Fire Control Systems recent experience
  • Submarine Strike experience 

PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in an Engineering related field with 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in an Engineering related field; or relevant military experience with a submarine combat system. Former US Navy Submarine Fire Control Technicians and Chief Fire Control Technicians are preferred for this position and encouraged to apply.
