Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.


Candidates must be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense Confidential security clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

GDMS has an immediate opening for a Senior Systems Engineer (RF) to join our Richardson, TX team.  The position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services.  GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.  The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to create and manage various GDMS and client technologies.  In addition to receiving a competitive salary and generous health and personal benefits, the Senior Systems Engineer (RF) will enhance their skill-set among a talented and technically accomplished group of colleagues working closely with servo, software, mechanical, production, and test personnel.  This position is responsible for designing multiple types of satellite systems.  These systems could be large ground based fixed systems, or used on a variety of military and commercial ground vehicles, shipboard, or airborne environments.

  • Experience with SATCOM system and product architectures including LNAs, LNBs, frequency converters, fiber optic systems, LDAs, SSPAs, SSPBs, BUCs, switch matrices, RF distribution, frequency references, and BITE
  • Generate cascade performance prediction analyses (i.e. NF, Gain, IP3, IP2, 1-dB compression, spurious response, EVM, etc.) through frequency conversion
  • Perform satellite to Earth station terminal and terminal to satellite link budgets for VSAT and large antenna systems
  • ARSTRAT Testing and Certification Experience
  • Produce proposal responses for Earth station antenna systems including antenna and satellite standards research, generation of system specifications, engineering schedules, budgets, Work Breakdown Structures (WBSs), resource allocations, and design documentation
  • VSAT and SOTM system design, implementation and test
  • Generate engineering documentation including Bill of Materials (BOMs), schematics, RF block diagrams, test procedures, technical memos, test reports, and power consumption analyses
  • Must possess RF analysis and trouble-shooting skills including RFI mitigation
  • Theoretical analysis of digital modulations including but not limited to BPSK, QPSK OQPSK and coding techniques
  • System integration and test including on-site testing and qualification
  • G/T, cross-pol isolation, and antenna pattern measurement techniques for Proposal and Technical Meeting Presentations




  • Very strong use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • Very strong knowledge of other related disciplines
  • Very strong proficiency with requirements management & system modeling tools
  • Recognizes various architectural patterns and applies them appropriately
  • Very strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Very strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Very strong ability to clearly report information relevant to sound systems engineering design
  • Very strong understanding of basic project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost
  • Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls


  • Performs requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system, subsystem or system elements with minimal supervision of the lead systems engineer
  • Performs technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements
  • Performs customer requirements analysis, develops system requirements and defines allocations to lower levels (subsystem, elements and components)
  • Performs detailed technical analyses for a system, subsystem or system elements
  • Develops and evaluates systems, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable governmental security specifications
