Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

 

Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Hardware/Systems Senior Architect - Avionics Computers.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

The Hardware/Systems Senior Architect - Avionics Computers will analyze, design, develop and test General Dynamics Mission Systems ruggedized avionics computers to ensure the successful integration of software and hardware while achieving reliability, maintainability and safety requirements.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • formulating operational concepts
  • performing mission, functional, cost-benefit and risk analysis
  • selecting systems architecture
  • preparing systems specifications

Additional Responsibilities:

 

The selected candidate may also be asked to document security on both new and fielded information systems or provide accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features are considered and functioning properly.

  • Develop hardware architecture for ruggedized avionics computers
  • Perform trade studies comparing a variety of technologies
  • Serve as lead technical contributor on multiple acquisition proposal teams
  • Perform cost estimations
  • Provide mentoring to other (less senior) architects
  • Serve as the technical lead for a team of 6-20 engineers
  • Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance
  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs
  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures
  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Successful candidates will have hardware systems architecture experience as well as an electronic module design and/or FPGA design background.

 

Candidates must have in-depth demonstrated technical knowledge in three or more of the following areas:

  • Interface Technology:
    • 10GigE
    • PCIe
    • Fibre Channel
    • 1553
    • Display IO (DVI/Display Port/HDMI/ARICN 818/etc.)
  • Processor Technology:
    • X86 (Xeon, i7)
    • PPC
    • ARM
  • FPGA:
    • Altera
    • Xilinx
    • Microsemi
  • Avionics Design
    • System design for a rugged environment
    • Requirements creation/allocation experience 


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Technical team leadership
  • Business development support including proposal writing and customer presentations
  • DOD avionics hardware systems architecture experience
  • Active Department of Defense Secret security clearance


PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
