Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.


Department of Defense TS security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Workspace/Systems Administrator.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


Responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems
Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems
Serves as a front line interface to users with technical issues
Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchases
Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff
Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies
Duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users
The Server System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day support of Server services
Performs Server administration for Server Operating Systems
Performs administration of physical and virtualized servers
Responsible for the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of physical server hardware
Configures, maintains and troubleshoots network related interfaces on servers
Performs OS and vendor software patching on servers
Monitors Physical and Virtual Servers performance using monitoring tools
Performs troubleshooting on Servers
Run scripts and tools to automate repetitive processes and provides inputs for improvements
Provides input and follows a Disaster Recovery Plan for Physical and Virtual Servers
Executes Security Compliancy processes and policies
Executes necessary configurations to ensure compliance with back-up and disaster recovery policies and procedures
Supports Server related standards, policies, and procedures
Troubleshoots Server technical issues

Full use and application of standard principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
Provides resolutions to an assortment of problems of moderately complex scope
Uses judgment within defined practices and procedures
Works under normal supervision
Follows established directions
Work is reviewed for accuracy and overall adequacy
Contributes to the fulfillment of projects and organizational objectives
May provide guidance to non-exempt personnel
Requires a good understanding of Server based operating systems
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with non-technical and technical audiences
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of individuals including technical and non-technical staff
Good analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated ability to assist in developing and implement plans for upgrades and system enhancements
Demonstrated ability to assist in writing policies, procedures, and create system documentation
Good troubleshooting skills within the Servers OS as well as both networking and storage technologies
Must have hands-on experience deploying and supporting large-scale enterprise server solutions
Working knowledge of access, permissions and security that gives the clients the access to the data they need to perform their daily activities
Elevate more complex issues

Additional Responsibilities

  • Strictly adhere to all sponsor and company security policies / procedures within classified and other Limited Access Areas (LAAs)
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Desktop and Laptop hardware / software, and related peripheral hardware.
  • Provide move, add, changes of hardware, software, and phones.
  • Perform PC refresh including returning leased assets and maintaining the asset inventory system.
  • Respond to customer support requests via the Remedy ticketing system, ensuring that requests are updated regularly and are completed per SLA.
  • Provide general customer support, configuration, and upgrades in the area of PC hardware and software.
  • Support patching and security remediation efforts as required.
  • Participate in IT projects and perform other duties as directed.

An active CISSP or Security+ certification is preferred though not required at time of hire.
