Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience.



Candidates must demonstrate a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of technological systems and programming, and the ability to further integrate and deploy new technology.

  • The person qualified for this position has previously installed, operated and maintained hardware and software that uses the Linux operating system and VMware ESXi.
  • Experience working on a modern virtualized network is required.
  • Experience working in a classified environment is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates with these preferred skills will be given preferential consideration:

  • Experience working with AWS GovCloud and/or C2S environments
  • Experience automating tasks in Bash, sh, Python, or another scripting language
  • Experience with patching servers/virtual machines (Red Hat Satellite preferred)
  • Familiarity working in environments with multiple levels of firewalls, routing, and network ACLs
  • Experience working with large instances of RDBMS systems such as Oracle
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat
  • Experience with Apache Solr/Lucene
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator Certifications


This position requires an active Top Secret security clearance upon hire and must meet SCI eligibility. Must be willing and able to obtain a polygraph within the customer’s timeline after hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a LINUX System Administrator.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. 


The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to create and manage various General Dynamics Mission Systems and client technologies. Key Responsibilities:

The position provides an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's law enforcement services. This position will be responsible for installing, operating and maintaining a heterogeneous environment consisting of servers running RedHat Linux, VMware ESXi, and Windows. The servers are used to host web applications, and include Apache, Tomcat, Oracle, and MySQL. Network devices include routers, firewalls, switches, load balancers, and network attached storage. A full suite of FISMA compliant security and management applications are also included.

  • Install, configure and update hardware and software
  • Operate and maintain all integrated systems to support mission operations
  • Manage Amazon Web Service Cloud environments leveraging services such as VPC, EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, IAM, etc
  • Perform daily application updates and maintenance functions
  • Respond to Tier 3 and Tier 4 trouble tickets
  • Open trouble tickets and respond to trouble calls
  • Respond to management system alerts
  • Deploy monthly security patches and updatesRespond to after-hours trouble calls


Additional Responsibilities

  • Support annual FISMA and NIST security requirements
  • Participate as a member of a small, multi-disciplinary team that works cooperatively to ensure supported applications are available to support the customer mission
  • Learn other team responsibilities/technologies to enable acting as backup/augmentation as required
