Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.

 

Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Quality Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • We are looking for a Quality Engineer with experience working with Printed Wiring Boards
  • Must have:  Experience inspecting cross-sections of coupons for Printed Wiring Boards using metallurgical scope with magnifications up to 200X
  • Must have:  Experience designing or manufacturing or inspecting Printed Wiring Boards
  • Must have:  Familiarity with MIL-PRF-31032, IPC-A-600
  • Dispositions non-conforming materials 
  • Designs, implements, and maintains quality assurance protocols and methods for processing materials into partially finished or finished products
  • Designs methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of production processes, production equipment and finished products
  • Performs analysis of reports and production data to identify trends and recommend updates or changes to quality standards and procedures when necessary
  • Reviews Documents/Drawings/Instructions for conformance to requirements
  • Compares defects against standards and recommends dispositions, and verifies implementation of rework 
  • Collects, organizes and analyzes project data, generates and/or reviews metrics 
  • Performs audits, assigns corrective action, and verifies implementation
  • Participates in project reviews and meetings including technical design reviews, technical peer reviews 
  • Verifies compliance to defined requirements
  • Witnesses, performs and or monitors test activities
  • Receives instructions from immediate supervisor
  • Contact with multiple work groups
  • Works under general supervision
  • Interfaces with various engineering disciplines, manufacturing, program management, and other quality personnel
  • Some contact with project leaders and other professionals within the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality departments
  • Works as an individual technical contributor on one or multiple project 
  • Participates as an active member of the project team
  • Interfaces with customer representatives
  • Provides resolution to problems of moderate scope
  • Travel may be required
  • Security clearance may be required

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Solid knowledge of engineering (i.e., software, electrical, systems, etc) methodologies, tools, and standards 
  • Solid knowledge of ISO 9001:2008, CMMI, ISO 14001ASME, ANSI, EIA, etc. 
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Solid written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Solid skills in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
  • Solid ability to clearly recognize and report relevant to sound quality engineering practices
  • Solid knowledge of interpretation of drawings
  • Solid skills in reviewing documents/drawings/instructions for conformance to requirements techniques
  • Solid skills in reporting quality activities, findings, and issues both in writing and verbally
  • Solid interpersonal skills
  • Solid knowledge of use of relevant inspection/measurement tools and techniques
  • Solid computer skills, both desktop software and required factory or engineering tools
