Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

 

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Lead Systems Engineering for the Guidance Fleet Support Group.  This position is in direct contact with the Strategic Weapons Facilities and other various Guidance Facilitites both in the uS and UK  The position provides an opportunity to further advance technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

Conduct guidance problem resolution and define Fleet/Field guidance program requirements

Maintain guidance fleet/field documentation, which includes requirements, proposed changes, policy/procedures, etc

Maintain Coordination Drawings (Cood Dwgs) and Shorebased Interface Requirement Drawings (SIRDs)

Participant in both US and UK Crew Interview meetings.  This includes presentation preparation, responses the guidance related questions, PNOCs to Coord Drawings, and PCN for SIRDs

Maintain documentation related Guidance System handling at all facilities, which includes both the policies and procedures.

Coordination of the Facility Technical Proficiency Evaluation (FTPE) inspections for the guidance team.  This includes inspections at the two US Strategic Weapons Facilities, Eastern Range, and UK

Supervision of other engineers

Performs technical planning, cost and risk analyses
Performs customer requirements analysis
Performs detailed technical analyses for a subsystem or system anomalies
Researches and analyzes data, such as vendor products, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
Provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
Independently determines proposed approach to solutions
Contributes to the completion of major programs and projects
Plans and executes project tasks for activities described above
Creative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skills.
Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses.
Regular contact with senior levels of internal work groups
Works under limited direction
Contact with Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and other professionals within the Engineering department and with project teams across the company
Frequent contact with external customers
Travel is required
Security clearance is required
Provides resolution to a diverse range of complex problems
Independently determines approach to solutions
Keeps abreast of technology trends
Contributes to the achievement of business objectives

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Experience in the area ok MK6 Guidance Fleet Operations

Some basic knowledge related guidance activities at the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Level Facility

Fully proficient use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
Fully proficient knowledge of other related disciplines
Fully proficient with requirements management
Fully proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Fully proficient written and verbal communications skills
Ability to sell concepts and ideas
Creative thinker
Ability to multi-task
Fully proficient ability to grasp and apply new information quickly and effectively handle complex assignments
Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
