    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Senior Embedded Systems Software engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    This is a Senior Systems/ Embedded Software Engineer position within General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies located in State College PA. We only consider highly self-motivated candidates that perform without appreciable direction. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong technical background with proven experience and possess the ability to lead a small development team. The individual must have strong oral and written communication skills, exhibit the ability to work and excel in a team environment and possess strong people skills within a leadership positions. 



    As part of the team, the candidate will play a lead role throughout the product development process which includes:

    • Requirements analysis and specification
    • Systems Architecture and Design Documentation
    • Project Status Tracking
    • Software Design documentation
    • Present System Level and SW architecture and design at formal reviews such as PDR and CDR
    • Design, code development and test.
    • Programming experience using C / C++
    • Lead and Participate in Internal peer reviews
    • Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines such as Electrical Engineering circuit card designers
    • Develop Test plans and validation methodologies
    • Software and System Integration and Test
    • Release documentation
    • Production and Field support


    The position requires the ability to organize and maintain tasks and contribute to the design while overseeing team contributions and via a metric based strategy, track project schedules and budgets. The selected candidate will also deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet changing business needs, support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems’ culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures. The candidate will follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems’ services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices.




    Additional consideration is given for candidates with class emphasis or work experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Agile development
    • Rational Team Concert (RTC)
    • Real-Time Systems/Operating Systems
    • Signal Processing and/or Digital Communications
    • Multiprocessor/multicore or distributed processing experience
    • Embedded software experience using Linux, SMX or VxWorks
    • Low level programming of device drivers in Linux and real time environments
    • Web interface/HTML
    • Experience with Microsoft Project
    • Eclipse development environments
    • IAR development tools
    • LabVIEW development environment





    Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent software experience is required.
