Basic Qualifications

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's of Science degree or Technology degree, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree. 


Clearance Requirements:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire with the ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. An active Top Secret clearance is highly desired at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Support Engineer / Security Systems Instructor.  This position provides an opportunity to educate the customer community and further advance the cutting-edge technology supporting some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with many DOD and Government customers and contractors to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



  • Analyzes effects of projects upon various areas such as Engineering, Facilities, and the labor pool to determine the most practical and cost-efficient methods to obtain the required resources
  • Troubleshoots systems, software and equipment layout
  • Develops test plans and preventative maintenance programs
  • Develops, implements, installs, tests, modifies and/or operates cryptographic and network infrastructure equipment and systems
  • Teach/instruct on configuration, maintanence and troubleshooting for communications security (wired and wireless) equipment
  • Functions as part of a team of skilled service personnel responding to problems with General Dynamics manufactured communications gear
  • Makes recommendations and coordinates and identifies resources needed to repair equipment
  • Makes occasional trips on site to inspect and correct equipment malfunction
  • Prerforms research and engineering laboratory functions involving the layout, building, testing, troubleshooting and repairing of devices, assemblies, subsystems, and systems
  • Prepares equipment for testing in order to replicate problems encountered in the field
  • Prepares reports of descrepencies with operation of equipment for use by development engineering staff
  • Provides technical expertise to customers, recommending solutions with existing products manufactured at General Dynamics
  • Regular communication with other internal customers/work teams
  • Serves as technical support resource with a demonstrated level of focused technical competence with network infrastructures


  • Travel 30 to 40% after instructor qualification
  • Some international travel/valid passport required
  • Knowledge of Import/Export ITAR
  • Builds productive internal/external working relationships

  • Solid application of network infrastructure (TCP/IP Ethernet Public Key Encryption) concepts and principles

  • Demonstrates technical competence in the setup, monitoring and documentation of experiments and/or lab equipment
