Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering and/or related field or equivalent experience, plus 2 years of related experience or Master's degree.


Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.



Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an IT Systems and SW Application Admin.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



  • Consults and collaborates with business leaders, end user, IT staff, vendors, and other third parties and is involved in every phase of application development lifecycle 
  • Predominately the role uses development and applications administration / support skills in the configuration, customization, maintenance, and interfacing of Commercial of the Shelf (CoTs) business applications in the GDMS infrastructure 
  • Their responsibilities include requirements specification, solution design, prototype plans, developing and testing code, solution release, and supporting issue analysis and resolution 
  • Collaborates with a team of IT professionals to set specifications for new applications
  • Designs creative prototypes according to specifications
  • Writes high quality source code to program complete applications within schedule deadlines
  • Ensures application interoperability with IT infrastructure components while ensuring compliance with wide-ranging information security requirements
  • Ensures application integration interoperability with other applications or subsystems (e.g. interface management, data integration systems, job automation) 
  • Performs unit and integration testing before launch
  • Tests code using sample data sets to ensure the output from the program meets the requirements
  • Conducts functional and non-functional testing
  • Troubleshoots and debug applications
  • Evaluates existing applications to reprogram, update and add new features
  • Develops technical documents to accurately represent application design and code
  • Recommends coding fixes to resolve outstanding issues and work to enhance applications to automate business process as best possible
  • Moderate business travel required 


This position supports a wide variety of systems and software engineering applications including requirements management, modeling and design tools, and configuration and change management tools.  The support role includes user support and administration on the use of Sys/SW tools.  In addition to the technical role, the position includes working with the Engineering staff and leadership in a “light” Business Analyst role to assist in identifying potential new solutions, process changes, and roadmaps.  Candidate will work closely with engineering to deliver robust technology solutions enabling end to end technology initiatives.


The successful candidate should have 2+ years experience with a Systems and Software engineering background and a familiarity with common engineering tools.  Due to the need for support of closed labs, the candidate will need to be on-site primarily at the Dedham, MA office and optionally the Taunton, MA office.  


Must have experience with Systems and Software engineering tools including the following:

  • IBM ClearCase/ClearQuest required
  • IBM Rhapsody a plus
  • IBM DOORS a plus
  • IBM RTC a plus
  • DTT a plus
  • Knowledge of configuration and change management tool capabilities is a must
  • Must have experience supporting Engineers in the above tools (User support and application administration/development)
  • Able to work with users to collect information and resolve issues
  • Understand best practice approach for systems and software engineering
