Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Lean Business Analyst.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



The Business Process Improvement Analyst will have the opportunity to build strong relationships with professionals from across the company and a variety of disciplines to enhance their business acumen, grow their network and create innovative solutions to difficult business challenges.


The selected candidate will perform specific duties including:

  • Determining customer needs: Gather high-quality information about customers and their activities by using tools such as surveys, focus groups, interviews, and observations to understand how their processes work.
  • Translating customer needs into process requirements: Use customer data to reveal important information about customers’ needs, perception, and attitudes. Take those initial insights and dig deeper to turn customer needs into process goals.
  • Mapping and measuring current processes: Create process maps to help visualize it and enhance understanding of the variables that make it work using visual diagrams, charts and tables. Outline steps for measuring different parts of the process and assessing their efficiency.
  • Analyzing process problems: Analyze the present state of business procedures and evaluate their good and bad qualities. Perform gap analysis, identify causes of process problems, prioritize causes of process problems, validate causes of process problems, and identify the changes necessary for resolving the problem and improving the process.
  • Identifying improvement ideas and solutions: Generate solution ideas, refine solution ideas, select solution, develop new business process designs, determine risks of potential solutions, and perform prototyping and simulation of the proposed solution.
  • Implementing and sustaining process improvements: Create a test plan for process improvements, develop a process improvement implementation plan, implement process improvements effectively, and maintain process improvements.
  • Partners with business end-user community and IT staff to refine, tune, train, promote adoption and optimize environment
  • Performs other duties as directed
  • Moderate business travel required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with analytical concepts and tools
  • Evidence of ability to follow detailed task direction and instructions on tasks of limited scope using entry level understanding of enterprise applications
  • Demonstrates personally accountable behavior and shows initiative
  • Ability to work in and foster a highly collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated capacity to drive change and adapt to fluid business priorities and technical shifts
  • Possessing highly defined ethics and integrity
  • Clear and concise oral & written communication skills
  • Understanding of Microsoft tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio

Preferred Degree Types and Experience:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or related technical discipline or equivalent industry experience.  
  • Experience with analytical concepts and tools
