Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Project Manager to join the Guidance, Navigation and Electronics Systems (GNES) team.  The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


This position will work directly with the Program Manager to manage cost, schedule and technical performance of the Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Guidance Tactical Engineering Support (TES) program. The TES Program is responsible for managing Navy Guidance Fleet Support and Field Operations at the Strategic Weapon Facilities and Cape Canaveral Air Force Base. This includes technical, logistical and documentation support for the US Navy FBM Guidance Program. This program is also responsible for providing engineering hardware and software support for FBM Guidance Design, Manufacturing and Test, including Test and Support Equipment.



  • Authorizes the work, organizes interdepartmental activities, and tracks work accomplished to baseline plans to ensure rate of work completion is sufficient to meet schedules
  • Conducts reviews to drill down into issues on products/projects, identify risks, develop corrective actions, and communicate issues, impacts and corrective actions to project teams
  • Works with the engineering and operations team to ensure appropriate alignment of resources to attain product/project goals
  • Forecasts product/project completion as required based on performance trends
  • Supports customers on technical questions regarding the project/product(s)
  • Interfaces with customer to gain and maintain knowledge and understanding of future needs
  • Leads team to identify and quantify risks and opportunities; leads risk mitigation / opportunity capture activities
  • Balances product/project plans, risks, and opportunities with executable strategies to meet technical requirements and budgets
  • Identifies scope changes and develops product/project positions for equitable cost and schedule adjustments
  • Responsible for the profit and loss of products/projects
  • Develops and executes proposal plans and strategies
  • Develops customer relationships and develops new business within the program

  • Proficient ability to identify issues, track progress, and follow through on effective corrective actions based on data analysis and trends
  • Proficient ability to understand and analyze project financial data
  • Ability to evaluate quality of work product to ensure satisfaction of customer requirements
  • Proficient understanding of the fundamentals of risk and opportunity management and ability to apply them to projects
  • Proficient ability to lead teams in matrix organization to achieve schedule, cost, and technical performance objectives
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal
  • Ability to make sound, proactive decisions
  • Skilled in the development and implementation of product/project strategy and tactics
  • Proficient in MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Travel is required (approx 10%)


BS/MS in relevant technical or business discipline

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within 12 months of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
