Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.



Responsibilities for this Position


General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Configuration Management Specialist to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to support some of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to deliver end-to-end solutions in configuration management (CM), product development and productivity. Configuration Management Specialists are responsible for establishing and maintaining configuration management tools and supporting configuration identification, control, reporting, release and delivery of products and systems. This includes but is not limited to, creating Configuration Management Plans, identifying configuration identification of items (CIs), control of CIs, change control, reporting and status accounting, and release and delivery of such products and systems. This employee will lead a team to perform configuration management and release engineering tasks to ensure new product operating parameters are documented, comply with standards and are logistically sustainable. The development of internal configuration standards and training others to use configuration management tools is required.



  • Utilizes software configuration management tools to support configuration identification, control, reporting, and delivery of both internally developed and externally acquired software products
  • Compiles and assembles software from source code
  • Assists in the preparation of Software Change Control Board meetings and may supports Systems Change Control Board meetings
  • Executes build procedures that are used to support software product development, Integration testing as well the product baseline for formal test and delivery
  • Assists in the development of software configuration standards for company wide use
  • Tracks and reports on Third Party Software products and licensing usage
  • Supports others to complete analysis, evaluations and design alternatives and to implement process improvements
  • Supports project teams to determine an appropriate build schedule and then initiates the build and packaging process
  • Works with senior staff or development engineers to correct build errors
  • Frequent contact with employees and managers within the department and development groups
  • Some contact with management outside of the department
  • Some customer contact

  • Full use and application of standard principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
  • Strong time management skills
  • Fully proficient in the use of all MS Office Suite applications
  • Working knowledge of Software Configuration Management Applications
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Solid attention to detail
  • Strong multi-tasking skills
  • Security clearance may be required
  • Works under normal supervision
