Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 0 years of relevant experience.


Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a mid-level Project Manager.  The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


The Project Manager will report to the Ship Sustainment Senior Program Manager and execute the duties and responsibilities required to perform project management to include: program planning, cost estimating, scheduling, budgeting, reporting, risk/opportunity management and workload forecasting.


The selected candidate will work within a geographically dispersed team to assist the Program Manager in support of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) Mission Modules Design Engineering Production and Sustainment (DEP&S) Program.   • Supports the Ship Sustainment Senior Program Manager in managing and reporting status 
  • Responsible to assist in all facets of program management including the coordination of engineering, contracts, subcontracts, finance, program performance, scheduling, quality, configuration management, manufacturing, procurement, test/evaluation, cybersecurity, and risk management to ensure all reporting requirements and customer deliverables are accurate and delivered on time 
  • Monitor and direct LCS MM DEP&S program activities and work closely with Ship Sustainment Senior Program Manager and Control Account Managers (CAMs) to effectively execute all program tasks
  • Lead performance reviews and analysis to ensure cost and schedule are tracking to plan
  • Support workload forecasting and reporting to meet program and company objectives
  • Perform analysis and reporting on LCS MM DEP&S program specific contract data – A time and materials contract.
  • Support the Ship Sustainment Senior Program Manager and subcontract management personnel to effectively manage subcontractors
  • Work with engineering, manufacturing, and material procurement personnel to quantify cost and lead time requirements
  • Support planning efforts in accordance with current company policies, common processes, and contract terms and conditions
  • Lead risk and opportunity reviews and manage mitigation efforts to positively affect program cost, schedule, and technical performance
  • Implement common processes and efficiencies across all Sustainment programs
  • Lead efforts to foster Operational Improvements (OIs)
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Considerable ability to identify issues, track progress, and follow through on effective corrective actions based on data analysis and trends
  • Supports customers on technical questions regarding products
  • Prepare and present project status to leadership
  • Develops a cohesive project plan, authorizes the work, and manages cost, schedule and technical performance of projects (products or services)
  • Organizes interdepartmental activities to ensure that projects are completed on schedule and within budget
  • Leads department or cross-functional project teams in matrix organization to achieve schedule, cost, and technical performance objectives
  • Identifies issues, tracks progress, and follows through on corrective actions
  • Supports customers on technical and programmatic questions regarding products and services
  • Leads team in forecasting project cost and schedule completion as required based on performance trends
  • Prepares and presents project status to leadership
  • Leads team to identify and quantify risks and opportunities; leads risk mitigation / opportunity capture activities
  • Support new business development efforts, as required
  • Develops and executes proposal plans and strategies for assigned projects
  • Develops negotiation plans
  • Leads customer negotiations for projects


  • Technical understanding of product(s)
  • Considerable knowledge of work estimating, allocation, scheduling, and authorization
  • Considerable ability to generate cohesive project plans
  • Considerable ability to analyze labor hours in GDMS systems related to LCS MM DEPS Program Billing requirements.
  • Considerable ability to identify issues, track progress, and follow through on effective corrective actions based on data analysis and trends
  • Considerable ability to understand and analyze project financial data
  • Considerable understanding of the fundamentals of risk and opportunity management and ability to apply them to projects
  • Considerable ability to lead teams in matrix organization to achieve schedule, cost, and technical performance objectives
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal
  • Ability to make sound, proactive decisions
  • Ability to develop and execute proposal plans and strategies
  • Negotiation skills
  • Considerable knowledge of MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • May be required to travel
