    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Advanced Software Configuration Management Specialist.  The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    The Advanced Software Configuration Management (CM)Specialist must possess knowledge and experience across one or more relevant functional areas.


    The Advanced Software CM Specialist will:


    - Lead all CM activity for a major project of high importance to the enterprise

    - Advise senior level customers regarding CM strategies, tools, or processes at an enterprise level

    - Develop and implement the configuration management system which supports the program's software development life cycle (SDLC)

    - Define and utilize software configuration management tools to support configuration identification, control, reporting, and delivery of both internally developed and externally acquired software products

    - Perform configuration management and release engineering tasks to ensure new product operating parameters are documented, comply with standards and are logistically sustainable

    - Design, develop, automate and maintain productivity tools - Develop the program's build, release and deployment processes plans which support the release life-cycles for different stages of the SW development activities

    - Define and implement build requirements and procedures that are used to support software product development and use

    - Introduce new techniques and technologies for new build systems and evolve existing systems and techniques

    - Develop branching and merging strategy for the developed source code and firmware

    - Write scripts and programs for building or installation of products

    - Compile, assemble and package software and firmware from source code

    - Provide program office with metric information

    - Prepare for and runs Software Change Control Board meetings and may support Systems Change Control Board meetings

    - Review and approve Software documentation

    - Maintain a flexible schedule to work off hours, remotely, as needed by program needs

    - Develop software configuration management standards for company wide use

    - Track and maintain Third Party Software (TPS) library, including license counts and usages

    - Audit TPS data against Software Bills of Material and reviews all Purchase orders and eSACs in support of usage

    - Train software developers in the use of configuration management tools in support of company Configuration/Data Management policies and best practices

    - Work with the program office and development teams to complete analysis, evaluations and design alternatives and to implement process improvements

    - Work with project teams to determine an appropriate build schedule and then initiates the build and packaging process

    - Work with development engineers to correct build errors - Provide direction and may delegate work to lower level employees

    - Contribute to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects

    - Provide support in development of program plans, Configuration/Data Management Plans and proposals

    - May lead/contribute to teams resolving program or company issues

    - Attend program reviews and may present material at the program reviews

    - Frequent contact with employees and managers within the department

    - Frequent contact with management outside of the department

    - Frequent customer contact KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    - Advanced understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field

    - Solid knowledge of other related disciplines

    - Excellent time management skills

    - Advanced proficiency in the use of all MS Office Suite applications

    - Highly proficient in Software Configuration Management Applications

    - Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

    - Excellent attention to detail

    - Excellent multi-tasking skills

    - Able to exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action

    - Security clearance may be required

    - Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work

    - Independently determines and develops approach to solutions

    - Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems

    - Grasps and applies new information quickly; handles more complex assignments

    - Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction


    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required
