    Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business equivalent is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Advanced Finance Specialist.  The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    Partner with business to ensure timely and accurate daily business activities, included but not limited to:

    • Programmatic Reviews
    • Earnings Rate Reviews
    • Workload planning
    • EAC (Estimate at Complete) / ETC (Estimate to Complete) 
    • Risk analysis
    • Operations Review preparation
    • Detailed invoice reconciliation
    • Budgeting and forecasting
    • Prepares, analyzes and evaluates financial information associated with the program (s) or department forecasts and cost pools for budget, forecast, pricing, planning, invoicing and control
    • Monitors actual costs of program and compares to budgeted costs to identify and understand variances
    • Interprets data to determine present and future financial performance
    • Performs month end close activities for assigned programs
    • Performs studies and summarizes recommendations related to investment/business opportunities, future trends and impact of governmental requirements/financial regulations.
    • Manages the development of all annual plans including the 5 year Business Plan
    • Assists Controller to monitor Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet account activity for profitability and cash flow analysis
    • Performs work that is consultative in nature and includes complex analysis
    • Manages financial planning function by directing financial planning activities for the area of assignment including the departmental budgeting process, capital budgeting process, forecasting, rates development, financial reporting, performance measurement, audit support, and ad hoc analysis
    • Monitors system inputs and results in gatekeeper capacity to ensure program finance analysts and controllers compliance with company policy and procedure, audit requirement, Sarbanes-Oxley, etc. compliance issues within area of assignment
    • Provides consultative, tactical advice to management, based on analysis, to improve outcomes and mitigate losses
    • Consolidates or oversees the consolidation and roll-up (integration) of financial statements for C4S and General Dynamics Corporate Finance including supplemental schedules and reports for area of assignment which may include: Quarterly and Annual Business Review, Preclose, Quarterly and Annual Actuals, and Quarterly and Annual Outlooks (Forecasts) for cash flow, earnings, sales, orders and total organizational cost
    • Leads and coordinates the processes and procedures for collecting, consolidating, analyzing, and developing departmental or cost pool budgets, capital budgets, Strategic Business Plans, New Business Funds, and/or Rate Control
    • This is the career level in many professional specialties
    • Subject matter expert (SME) in one discipline/field and developing working knowledge in adjacent disciplines/fields 




    • Highly proficient and able to perform all responsibilities associated with the position
    • Grasps and applies new information quickly; handles more complex assignments
    • Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
    • Leadership and supervisory skills
    • Proficient knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley audit and reporting requirements
    • Proficient technical knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Proficient technical knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
    • Proficient technical knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)
    • Experience with EAC (Estimate at Complete) / ETC (Estimate to Complete) 
    • General Dynamics MS division policies and procedures
    • Fully proficient computer skills, including MS Excel, MS Word, Essbase, Hyperion and Oracle
    • Advanced knowledge of all computerized Finance Systems
    • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
    • Moderately complex financial analysis skills
    • Proficient knowledge of Long Term Accounting for Government contracts, Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Financial Accounting Standards Board statements, Securities Exchange Act
    • Proficient knowledge of revenue recognition and profit analysis concepts and techniques
    • Working knowledge with Oracle Financials, Hyperion Planning, and Hyperion Essbase preferable
