  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree required in business management, business administration, or technical degree plus a minimum of 15 years of increasing leadership responsibility, including demonstrated success in program management/business development of complex DoD programs.  Master’s Degree preferred, either in technical discipline or MBA plus a minimum of 13 years of demonstrated leadership.


    Demonstrated success in growing a leadership team and in leading a business with profit and loss responsibility required.



    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    The Business Development Director charged with the growth and market expansion of the Army Futures Business Area, as local lead BD professional for the Taunton, MA facility.  Collaborate across all GDMS Management Units to identify, pursue and capture high priority programs and products that support company strategic goals.  Additionally, assists the Vice President of Innovation in developing strategic direction, identifying required new capabilities, providing feedback on products, industry trends and customer needs, and fostering partnerships and teaming with key players to support successful proposal bids.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Establish and maintain critical customer accounts within select DoD organizations;
    • Develop and execute capture plans associated with strategic new business opportunities;
    • Develop and refine marketing, branding, and external messaging collateral used to proliferate and raise brand awareness in support of new business identification and capture;
    • Provide contact and business relationships with other business units, Lines of Business and companies within GDMS and GD.

    Additional duties include but are not limited to:

    • Development, maintenance, and tracking of Business Area strategic and technology plans (to include budgeting of resource dollars to support said plans).
    • Direct oversight and responsibility of the capture of strategically important opportunities; teaming discussions/approvals, upfront investment IRAD decisions, industry day attendance, cost/pricing strategy, vendor negotiations, customer contact and opportunity shaping
    • Tradeshow Strategy, Planning & Attendance: what to send, what to demonstrate, who to send, development of messaging, development of marketing materials, development of hardware/software demos, scheduling customer/vendor meetings, attend C4S planning meetings, attend shows
    • New Business Financial Strat Planning: work with the VP of Army Futures to identify and  to properly capture new business opportunities that should be included in the 5-year strat plan
    • Creation and maintenance of business area capability briefings, development of marketing material (PIBs, slick sheets, presentations), website content updates/validation, writing of articles/press releases
    • Funnel maintenance & management: scrubbing funnel on a regular basis, working with VP Army Futures and individual Capture Managers to determine what’s real, validation of dollar values and timelines
    • Opportunity Capture Management: lead the capture team on key opportunities through the capture process and color team reviews.
    • Building/maintaining strategic relationships with key partners/vendors (Cisco, Dell, NetApp, etc.)
    • Building/maintaining relationships with key customers
    • Review and dissemination of government budgets
    • Evaluating RFIs (should we respond); developing RFI response strategy, developing/submitting RFI
    • Contact and business relationships with other business areas, lines-of-business and companies within GDMS, IS&T and other GD Business units such as GDLS
    • Personnel management of a small team of direct reports; including mentorship and counseling.


    • 10+ years of direct Business Development experience in the DoD/Federal Marketplace.
    • Demonstrated intimate working knowledge of government acquisition process, with previous DoD acquisition experience highly desired
    • Successful completion of GDMS or other formal Capture Management Training is required 
    • Must be able to travel 50% of the time
