    Bachelor's of Science degree or Technology degree, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree. Department of Defense Secret security clearance is not required at time of hire, but must be secured within 24 months of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.


    Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Semiconductor Equipment Support Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.

    General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    The Semiconductor Equipment Support Engineer performs assigned maintenance tasks on Semiconductor Manufacturing equipment in support of a production group. Primary and secondary areas may include, but not limited to, Implant, Sputter, Dry Etch, Masking, CVD, Diffusion, and Wet Etch.



    • Perform electronic (sometimes to component level), electrical, mechanical and vacuum system troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance on complex semiconductor manufacturing and/or Wafer equipment
    • Perform machine set-ups, adjustments, and calibrations


    • Interface with production, engineering, and other support groups for priorities and equipment status
    • Maintain appropriate work related records, such as PM Scheduler and PM checklists
    • Perform quality workmanship and adhere to quality maintenance procedures/directives
    • Use standard test equipment, hand tools, and common software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel etc.
    • Assist in moving chemicals to/from storage and to as needed
    • Assist in emptying and removing chemical waste containers
    • Other assigned maintenance and support activities
    • Sit or stand for extended periods of time (up to 9 hours per shift) and maintain alertness
    • Lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds
    • Repetitive work with hand tools such as screwdrivers, ratchets, wrenches, etc.
    • Work in tight spaces with significant kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, reaching (above and below shoulder height), and lying in awkward positions to reach equipment components during repair and preventative maintenance for lengthy periods of time
    • Work in a cleanroom environment wearing a cleanroom suit with safety glasses, a hair net, and gloves
    • Work in an environment containing potentially hazardous gases, chemicals, and fumes and be able and willing to perform equipment repair and maintenance in potentially hazardous situations utilizing the correct procedures, PPE and safety equipment
    • Record and relay information and to complete required paperwork accurately and on a timely basis
    • Assist in the design of equipment layout
    • Develop test plans and preventative maintenance programs
    • Develops, implements, installs, tests, modifies and/or operates complex equipment and systems
    • Participates on the engineering work team and supports other team members concerning design, materials, equipment setup/maintenance and related issues
    • Gathers and organizes data for review with appropriate engineer(s) in support of projects
    • Makes recommendations and coordinates and identifies resources required to meet defined project requirements
    • Provides technical expertise to customers, users or company personnel
    • Regular communication with other internal customers/work teams
    • Serves as company liaison with customers on technical matters for assigned projects
    • Performs research and engineering laboratory functions involving the layout, building, testing, troubleshooting and repairing of equipment
    • Instructs customers in the operation and maintenance of equipment
    • Formulates and recommends corrective action measures such as schedule revisions, manpower adjustments, fund allocations, and work requirements
    • Establishes work methodology and sequence to gather and organize data for review with appropriate engineer(s) in support of project
    • Utilize defined resources to meet project requirements
    • Analyze effects of projects upon Engineering and Facilities to determine the most practical and cost-efficient methods to obtain the required resources
    • Serve as technical support resource




    The successful candidate must have the following:

    • Familiar with ISO Class 3 Cleanrooms
    • Able to maintain a variety of semiconductor equipment
    • Complex equipment trouble shooting experience
    • Efficient work habits driven by planning ability
    • Able to multitask
    • Able to maintain legacy semiconductor equipment
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Outlook
    • Work with business operations for parts ordering and maintenance planning
    • Demonstrate creativity in resolving process and technical issues
    • Demonstrate very solid communications skills
    • Contribute to the completion of organizational projects and goals
    • Build productive internal/external working relationships
    • Knowledge of industry practices, techniques, and standards
    • Develop solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity
    • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
    • Show initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
    • Work under only very general supervision
    • Demonstrate technical competence in the setup, monitoring and documentation of equipment
    • Work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors




    • Good written and verbal communication skills and cognitive abilities
    • Applied materials and LAM Research Tool experience
    • Semiconductor Dry Etch experience
    • Understanding of semiconductor packaging equipment
    • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment
    • Demonstrated experience interfacing directly with external customers or vendors
    • Able to recognize a variety of visual and audible alarms, and distinguish between different types of alarms. For safety alarms, individual must be able to safely evacuate an area when necessary
