  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree. Agile experience preferred.

    Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for Software Development Engineer working on real-time embedded software predominately developed in C/C++ using VxWorks or similar operating system. Knowledge of military standard (e.g. MIL-STD-498) or commercial standard (e.g. DO-178C) software development processes is preferred.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



    Software Development Engineers conduct or participate in the design, development, and integration of systems software, software applications and/or tools for new programs and subprograms with exposure to all phases of software development and verification including requirements definition, software detailed design, code, integration, unit testing, and requirements-based testing.


    Responsibilities may include the following:

    • Participate in the full software life-cycle development using real time operating systems
    • Apply principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to the development of software
    • Assist with requirement definition and design activities and documentation
    • Implement software in C/C++
    • Participate in internal review of software components and systems
    • Integrate and test software and systems
    • Investigate and solve problem reports
    • Operate in a change control/configuration control environment

    Candidates must show a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of software systems and applications, and the ability to effectively manage, grow and evolve General Dynamics Mission Systems software solutions.

    The successful applicant shall have:

    • Experience developing embedded software using C/C++


    • Fibre Channel
    • MIL-STD-1553
    • Network programming
    • DOD Embedded avionics development


    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
