  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/related discipline is required or equivalent experience


    Additionally, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for a controlled billet in accordance with DoD Instruction 5210.42 Nuclear Weapons Personnel Reliability Program (PRP)



    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire and must meet eligibility requirements for a Top Secret clearance . Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a NWS System Administrator Specialist. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



    • Responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems
    • Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems
    • Serves as a front line interface to users with technical issues
    • Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchases
    • Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff
    • Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies
    • Duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users
    • The Server System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day support of Server services and Operating Systems
    • Performs administration of physical and virtualized servers
    • Monitors Physical and Virtual Servers performance using monitoring tools 
    • Executes necessary configurations to ensure compliance with back-up and disaster recovery policies and procedures
    • Supports Server related standards, policies, and procedures
    • Troubleshoots Server technical issues
    • Supports continuous improvement initiatives
    • Some contact with multiple work groups
    • Generally works with other members of a team
    • Some Travel Required
    • Focuses on becoming a subject matter expert (SME) in a particular technical area
    • Stays up to date on technology trends
    • Qualify Waterfront and Limited Area System Administrator
    • Maintain continuing education for acquired certification
    • Advanced IT certifications will be required throughout employment
    • May be required to be On-Call and Call-In status is required after normal working hours, on weekends and holidays on a rotating basis
    • Will be required to complete Electronic Security Systems Technician qualifications  


    • Limited use and/or application of basic principles, theories, and concepts

    • Contributions are usually limited to assignment related activities

    • Contacts are primarily with direct supervisor and other exempt professionals in the group or department
    • Requires an understanding of Server based operating systems
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with non-technical and technical audiences
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of individuals including technical and non-technical staff
    • Ability to work individually with supervision
    • Must have basic analytical and problem solving skills
    • Demonstrates ability to learn and apply GDMS culture, policies and processes 
    • Able to accept & integrate constructive feedback
    • Understanding of access, permissions and security that gives the clients the access to the data they need to perform their daily activities
    • Elevate more complex issues
    • Must learn the current AC&D system


    • DoD 8570 IAT level II certification at time of hire (CompTIA Security +, GSEC, SSCP, CCNA-Security, Linux+, MCSA, VMWare.)
    • MTA 98-365 certification or must be completed within 3 months from date of employment
