    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for Senior Advanced Systems Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

     

    Personal Skills

    • Experience documenting system engineering configuration, operations, and other activities for small to mid-scale data systems.
    • Exceptional Oral and written Communication Skills
    • Experience providing onsite system liaison support between government and contractor system support entities.
    • The ability to brainstorm and resolve mid-level IT technical issues with limited guidance and direction from other engineering team members.
    • A wiliness to interact with site customers on daily basis as onsite support team member.
    • A wiliness to be mentored by other team members with the capacity to learn new terminology and skills centric to the operational environment of our customers.
    • The ability to work with others and provide training and guidance on system support activities
    • A strong desire to be engrossed in first and third phase system support operational activities.
    • The patience and discipline to address customer support issues in a real-time high visibility environment.
    • Ability to multitask and handle multiple technical support objectives.     

     

    Technical Experience

    • Database Experience:
    • 2+ years of experience managing Oracle databases
    • An understanding of how to monitor the operational state of oracle databases.
    • Knowledge of how to restrict or grant users access to the Oracle database through various tools.
    • Experience backing up and restoring Oracle database instances
    • Knowledge of how to modify Oracle database configurations to increase performance and the overall user experience.
    • Experience instantiating new Oracle databases for system use.
    • Experience upgrading and patching Oracle databases.

     

    Enterprise Level System Problem Reporting

    • Experience working with the Remedy to generate, track, and modify Incident, Requirement, and Problem tickets.
    • Experience tracking the state of submitted tickets to their technical completion.
    • Experience uploading technical details to active tickets
    • Understanding of network protocol terminology that includes TCP/IP, UDP, UNICAST, FTP, SFTP, Multicast, and IGMP
    • Experience gathering network performance metrics against inbound and outbound network traffic
    • An understanding of the following terminology; bit-rate, throughput, VLAN, IGMP, Port, and QOS
    • Experience to trouble shoot network transport problems with the expectation of providing resolutions to those issues

     

    Technical Meeting Support

    • Experience attending and documenting discussion from Technical Exchange Meetings, System Requirement Meetings, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) Meetings, and System Requirement Review Meetings.
    • The ability to support each meeting by answering ADHOC questions and providing technical background information of onsite support activities.

    Baseline Management Experience

    • Experience documenting and tracking system configuration baselines.
    • The ability to create and deport system images to other clients and hosts
    • Create software and hardware baseline documentation for dissemination to team members, management, and the customer base.

    Personality/Drivers

    • A desire to learn from other senior engineer management personnel
    • The ability to work with others and provide training and guidance on system support and build activities
    • A desire to share information on support activities through documentations

    Hardware Installation Experience

    • Experience building and installing sever components to include internal hard drive, Random Access Memory (RAM), Network Interface Cards (NICs), Video Cards, and other interface related components.

     

    IT Server Experience

    • Experience installing memory, storage, network, SCSI components. 
    • Experiencing installing Windows and Linux OS
    • An understanding of Security Configuration Management practices.
    • An understanding of SAN and NAS storage protocol and concepts.
    • A knowledge following Window OS terminology: Security and administration tools, Access Control, Disk Management, Control Panel Overview, Command Prompt, and Windows Registry. 

     

    System Management Experience 

    • Experience documenting and tracking system configuration baselines.
    • The ability to create and deploy system images to other clients and hosts using Symantec Ghost.
    • Create software and hardware baseline documentation for dissemination to team members, management, and the customer base. 
    • Experience working with Visio, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, Project Manager


    PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE: 
    Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

     


    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
