  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Department of Defense secret security clearance is not required at time of hire but must be obtainable within 24 months of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

     

    Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Hardware Lead Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    Hardware Lead Engineers research, design, develop information processing hardware to operate in a harsh military environment. Avionics hardware consists of various electrical system components mechanisms, materials, circuitry, equipment and processes. 

     

    The selected candidate will be responsible for the design of circuit card assemblies based on the system hardware requirements, selecting electronic components, implementing the schematic design, directing the layout and routing of printed wiring boards, performing design analysis/simulation, and supporting system integration.  Additional responsibilities include evaluating the system performance, implementing test plans and writing design documentation.

     

    Selected candidates will also:

    • Synthesize solutions to meet customer expectations and technical performance while staying within schedule and cost constraints
    • Perform technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elements
    • Work with interdisciplinary teams consisting of mechanical, thermal, reliability, safety, manufacturing engineers and others to provide quality designs in compressed time-frames
    • Support the generation of engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycle
    • Manage component suppliers

     

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Experience leading engineering teams with the implementation of complex multi-core microprocessor designs
    • Excellent use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • Excellent proficiency with requirements management & system modeling tools
    • Effective in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions

    In addition the successful candidate will have experience with many of the following:

      • Display IO (DVI/Display Port/HDMI/ARICN 818/etc.)
    • Processor Technology:
      • X86 (Xeon, i7)

      • ARM
    • Memory:
      • DDR3/4
    • FPGA:
      • Altera
      • Xilinx
      • Microsemi
    • Avionics Design:
      • System design for a rugged environment
      • Requirements creation/allocation experience  


    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

    • Extensive experience with complex multi-core microprocessor avionics designs
    • Requirements management in DOORS
    • Active Secret Level DOD Clearance 


    PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
