  • Basic Qualifications

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Candidates must be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Principal Technologist .  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    The Senior Principal Technologist will possess in-depth experience in semiconductor component qualification and reliability testing and have a solid understanding of radiation effects in integrated circuits and its effect on system design. S/he will support the selection and qualification of semiconductor technologies (custom and COTS) to support Digital Signal Processing (DSP) designs for hi-reliability space-based communications systems.

     

    In this role the Senior Principal Technologist will be responsible for the following:

    • Conduct technology readiness assessment (TRA) to evaluate technology maturity and readiness level to support major commitments of product delivery
    • Define technology road-maps based on detailed analysis of reliability risk factors for semiconductor devices in space applications
    • Interface with customers to effectively communicate technology road-maps and achieve buy-in on development plans
    • Engage with internal and external stakeholders/partners to manage the bring-up of semiconductor devices from qualification to characterization to system implementation
    • Work with suppliers to ensure that packages/products meet our quality, reliability and operation needs

     In addition, the successful candidate must:

    • Possess a fundamental understanding of silicon fabrication processes, semiconductor (IC) design methodologies and component testing /characterization
    • Have experience with advanced semiconductor packaging technologies including 2.1D, 2.5D and 3D
    • Be able to effectively and efficiently work in a highly cross-functional environment, across supply chain partners and multiple layers of management

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    The Senior Principal Technologist position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering, Computer Science or a related specialty or the equivalent experience, and a minimum of ten years of related experience. A Master’s Degree in related specialty and a minimum of eight years of related experience is preferred.

     

    The successful candidate must have detailed understanding of semiconductor reliability testing methodologies, relevant industry standards (JEDEC), risk factors and how to analyze for them, troubleshooting and failure analysis of complex semiconductor failure modes, root cause and reliability risk assessment. S/he will possess a fundamental understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes, device physics, chip design architecture, DFR/DFM methodology and have familiarity with Semiconductor Suppliers and Semiconductor foundries in the following areas: Commodity spaces, road-maps, qualifications, process changes, industry and market drivers, etc.

     

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

    Experience with most, if not all, of the following are highly desired:

    • Hands-on experience with semiconductor component reliability testing (i. e. HTOL, ESD, Latch-up, etc ), and tooling bring-up for testing
    • Wafer fab experience, process development, troubleshooting, FA and DFM/DFR methodology
    • Device characterization with test/DFT influence to ensure right level of risk mitigation through guard-banding and test coverage
