  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

     

    Due to the nature of work performed at our facilities, US citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Supplier Quality Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Designs, implements, and maintains quality assurance protocols and methods for processing materials into partially finished or finished products
    • Designs methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of production processes, production equipment and finished products 
    • Performs analysis of reports and production data to identify trends and recommend updates or changes to quality standards and procedures when necessary
    • Provides technical review of documents, drawings, assembly instructions, and project plans
    • Compares defects against standards and recommends dispositions, verifies implementation of rework
    • Collects, organizes and analyzes project data, generates and/or reviews metrics
    • Performs audits, assigns corrective action, and verifies implementation
    • Participates in project reviews and meetings including technical design reviews, technical peer reviews, material review boards, change control boards, failure review boards
    • Participates in continuous improvement and problem solving activities within the project
    • Reviews documents/Drawings/Instructions for conformance to requirements
    • May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
    • Contributes to the completion of major programs and projects
    • Regular contact with senior levels of internal work groups
    • Works under limited direction 
    • Contact with project leaders and other professionals within Engineering and Operations departments, and with project teams across the company
    • Frequent contact with external customers
    • Provides resolution to a diverse range of complex problems
    • Works as an individual technical contributor on one or more projects
    • Recognized as an authority over a broad range of commodities such as mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical and circuit card assemblies
    • Participates as an active member of the project team
    • Independently determines approach to solutions
    • Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause significant delays or require the substantial expenditure of resources
    • Travel may be required
    • Works with suppliers to assure their delivery of compliant products or materials

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Highly proficient knowledge of a broad range of commodities such as mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical and circuit card assemblies with respect to methodologies, tools, and standards
    • Highly proficient knowledge of AS9100D, IPC J-STD-001 
    • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications
    • Highly proficient written and verbal communications skills
    • Ability to think creatively
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Contributes to the achievement of business objectives
    • Highly proficient skill in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
    • Highly proficient ability to clearly report relevant to sound quality engineering processes
    • Ability to sell concepts and ideas
    • Highly proficient knowledge of interpretation of drawings
    • Highly proficient skill in reviewing documents/drawings/instructions for conformance to requirements techniques 
    • Highly proficient skill in reporting quality activities, findings, and issues both in writing and verbally
    • Highly proficient interpersonal skills
    • Highly proficient knowledge of use of relevant inspection/measurement tools and techniques
    • Highly effective in dealing with supplier quality related issues with respect to a wide assortment of commodities such as connectors, fabricated machined parts, electrical components and circuit card assemblies

    PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

    • BS in Electrical, Material Science, Mechanical, Physics or Chemical Engineering
