  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

     

    Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

     

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a PCB Physical Packaging Electrical Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
    PCB Physical Packaging Electrical Engineers research, design, develop and test military electronic equipment and systems at GDMS including:

    • avionics mission computers
    • stores management systems
    • radar processing systems
    • analog and digital circuitry components

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Candidates must demonstrate a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of electronic equipment and systems, and the ability to further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology.  A thorough understanding and application of PCB Physical Packaging principles is critical to the success of highly sophisticated electronic systems with ever increasing signal speeds and performance requirements.

    Candidates must have:

    • Strong background in applied electro-magnetics, transmission lines and circuit theory
    • PCB module and backplane design and layout in the Mentor design flow with a focus on signal and power integrity (DxDesigner and Xpedition, Constraint Manager)
    • PCB stackup and construction including materials, lamination steps, via formation and spans, trace widths
    • PCB design for manufacturability (DFM), High Density Interconnect (HDI) and PCB reliability
    • Passion for making a career of PCB Physical Packaging with a goal of becoming a subject matter expert 

     

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

    Experience/Knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

    • Building and developing relationship with PCB vendors
    • Signal and Power Integrity simulation tools such as HFSS, HyperLynx, SIwave or similar
    • High frequency board and package level interconnect modeling and parasitic extraction
    • Familiarity with s-parameters, eye diagrams, jitter analysis, and signal integrity performance metrics in both time and frequency domains
    • Experience with board-level design for 10Gigabit Ethernet and higher, PCIe Gen2 and Gen 3, DDR3/DDR4 memory

     

    PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES: 

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or a specialized area, field or the equivalent
