    Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience


    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has openings for a Network Operations Planner Instructor as part of our New Equipment Training (NET) Team. The position provides an opportunity to support some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with DoD customers to develop solutions that allow them to execute high-stakes national security missions.    


    Network Operations Planner Instructors will support Army communications equipment training in support of Army Tactical Networks missions.  Working at GDMS is much more than a job.  It’s a place where you can experience a connection with like-minded and talented people that have a common goal of providing the best capabilities to the men and women that defend our nation.




    • Conducts technical training courses for customers and/or employees in the use of complex situations for multiple products
    • Interacts with customer and functional organizations to develop specifications for content of courses
    • Prepares lesson plans from engineering documentation, field service requirements or software documentation
    • Works with engineering, technical support and manufacturing to ensure that course material reflects current product features
    • Instructs participants in both classroom lectures and laboratory sessions
    • Follows up to determine applicability of course material
    • Plans, develops and coordinates training programs for personnel and customers
    • Develops specifications for content of the courses
    • Prepares lesson plans and obtains training materials, determines methodology and coordinates the development of training aids
    • Conducts training sessions and develops criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities
    • Updates course documentation on a continuous basis to ensure timeliness and relevance
    • Instructs customer and user personnel to operate, maintain, and repair hardware and software in classroom and laboratory settings while adhering to lesson plans strategies to maintain consistent and effective training and to maximize student training time
    • Conducts additional classes based on instructor's subject matter expertise in response to customer needs
    • Develops course materials including but not limited to lesson plans, student and instructor guides, student examinations, training aids, etc. while working in an environment independent of support infrastructure
    • Conducts technical research of equipment specifications and engineering drawings, liaison with customers, engineers, and tech writers in order to gain understanding of new equipment designs using imagination, creativity, and understanding of learning processes to develop training slides, briefings, lesson plans, practical exercises, and tests
    • Researches if instructional materials should be developed in-house or purchased from outside vendors
    • Provides direct feedback to training supervisors on required instructional techniques
    • Provides non-routine technical telephone or face to face support in the absence of company technical infrastructure in order to resolve customers' hardware, software, and training issues
    • Provides technical and training input to management for the development of training proposals
    • Assumes routine duties of the primary instructor in his/her absence
    • Monitors and evaluates quality of classroom lectures and laboratory exercises



    • A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization
    • Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
    • Demonstrates fully proficient judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
    • Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise  Has completed a military or commercial instructor certification course, or equivalent
    • Fully proficient and able to perform all responsibilities associated with the position
    • Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
    • Fully proficient knowledge of applicable subject matter and equipment assemblages being trained and of applicable laboratory training aids, interactive multi-media training technologies and other tools and devices used to conduct training
    • Fully proficient knowledge of training processes: design, development, production, and documentation/control
    • Fully proficient analytical thinking and problem solving skills
    • Ability to interact independently and without technical support with senior military personnel or government representatives in the analysis of complex technical information and interpret it into usable instructions for the intended audience
    • Ability to independently install and maintain hardware and software associated with the assigned duties of the position
    • Ability to use various software applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to produce training materials



    • Have the expertise and ability to conduct Network Planner training efforts for tactical networks
    • Candidate should have a varied portfolio of recent certificates and/or training credentials
    • Preferred candidates should have recent military experience or have served directly in a Military Communications Network Planner support role
    • Work as part of a team supporting new equipment training efforts
    • A Bachelor's degree in an IT related field and experience as a network planner is preferred
