  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is REQUIRED at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

     

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    The selected candidate will be responsible for designing and developing firmware for the Digital Receiver/Exciter and Digital Beamformer and will also participate in all aspects of the development life-cycle including design, development, integration, and test.

     

    To qualify, you must have experience with and/or an understanding of:

    • FPGA development including logic development, simulation, synthesis, testing, and timing closure
    • VHDL and associated modeling and simulation tools
    • High speed digital electronics, proper timing, and debugging capabilities
    • Digital signal processing (DSP) techniques
    • Embedded software development
    • Technical documentation including requirements, test reqporting, timing diagrams, block diagrams and detailed descriptions
    • Ability to work within a team integrating with software, test, system engineering, management and customers

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Digital board design including high speed signal layout
    • Participating in design meetings and reviews
    • SW development
    • Matlab modeling
    • Integration and Test of systems and subsystems
    • Working with customers and subcontractors on a regular basis
    • Contributing to project planning and reviews

    The Senior FPGA Engineer position requires the following:

    • Desire to develop cutting edge techonology within a world class development team
    • BSEE or Computer Engineering degree plus minimum 5-10 years hardware development experience using FPGAs, microprocessors, high speed digital circuits in embedded designs or a master's degree and a minimum of 3-6 years of related experience
    • FPGA Development in VHDL  (Verilog experience will be considered)
    • Experience in design, implementation and test of high speed processing and interfaces using FPGAs
    • Experience with hardware development concepts, practices and procedures
    • Experience with FPGA development concepts, practices and procedures
    • Knowledge of design verification and stress testing
    • Desire to learn and push the development envelope, willingness to take on strong challenges
    • Experience working with multi-discipline teams in multi-site projects or program environments is desirable
    • Ability to work with the Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and other professionals within a geographically seperated engineering department and with project teams across the company.
    • Frequent contact with external customers
    • Travel may be required
    • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with a particular focus on the ability to communicate effectively with the customer and with other industry members.
