  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree.

     

    Successful completion of a drug screen and background check is required.

     

    Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Job Description

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Electrical Design Engineer (RF).  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Perform design and development in such areas as electrical, electromagnetic, electromechanical and software for production, measurement, and use of systems, instruments and controls
    • Understand and interpret the technical, organizational and process aspects of the tasks assigned and relate them to the technical needs of the overall project or organization
    • Plan and execute small projects or task elements within larger projects, organizations, or for groups of projects
    • Responsible for the completion of assigned engineering tasks or small projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines
    • Participate in trade studies and testing of new and modified designs
    • Actively identify technical and organizational risks and ensure that they are included in risk mitigation plans
    • Interface with customers to determine specific design needs and identify solutions that best meet these needs
    • Participate in development of program strategies and teaming strategies as they relate to the business
    • Participate in the proposal process including preparation of cost estimates and technical writing
    • Travel will be required (infrequent to 10%)

     

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Perform radome design and analysis as directed by senior staff
    • Assist with legacy radome RF testing and evaluation
    • Support production implementation and problem resolution by leveraging in-house training and mentoring
    • Participate in radome qualification and testing by developing plans and procedures as well as actively supporting testing
    • Assist with proposal development for legacy product areas in addition to new design & development projects
    • Perform technical writing for formal engineering reports including qualification and acceptance reports

     KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • A strong background in mathematics
    • Experience and coursework that support a fundamental understanding of electromagnetics
    • Strong foundation and experience in programming using one or more of the following: FORTRAN or LabVIEW or C++. Additional possibilities include Python and MATLAB.
    • Proficient in MS Office applications – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to prepare and present technical briefings to senior management and customers

    PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Design and test experience with antennas or radomes
    • Experience with microwave test equipment in laboratory course work or through work experience
    • Experience with electromagnetic solvers (e.g. High Frequency Structure Simulator – HFSS)
    • Understanding of statistical methods in process control


    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Candidates must be able to obtain a Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire.
