  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience), plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Candidates must be able to obtain a Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Advanced Software Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Performs software requirements analysis, system integration activities, designs, develops and tests software and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancing existing applications, systems or embedded products
    • Performs analysis for all levels of total system product to include concept, design, architecture, user experience, test, installation, operation, maintenance
    • Applies principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to the development of complex solutions
    • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into software solutions utilizing whatever development lifecycle techniques or model will yield the optimal results (Agile, Waterfall, etc.)
    • Researches and analyzes data, state of technology and industry, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    • Applies and champions the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of technical engineering products
    • Responsible for resolution of significant and diverse range of complex problems and issues of broad scope and complexity which require the use of ingenuity and creativity
    • Isolates and documents issues and defects
    • Supports the generation of technical engineering products by applying the appropriate government standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development life cycle

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Proficient knowledge of the software development process as well as software engineering concepts, principles, and theories

    • Detailed and excellent knowledge of technology trends and champions new ideas and product and process improvements
    • Proficient knowledge of software tools supporting Integrated Development Environments (IDE), version control, defect reporting and scripting
    • Detailed knowledge of other related engineering and support disciplines
    • Proficient ability to excel at the development of new theories and methods
    • Proficient ability to be creative, innovative and responsible, and able to master advanced decision-making skills
    • Proficient ability to grasp and apply new information quickly
    • Shows initiative on assignments, and professionally executes projects as a technical lead with little or no direction, frequently provides direction and leadership to technical teams and determines methods and procedures

    • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

     

    The successful Advanced Software Engineer will have many of the following:

    • Proficient experience with Video Codec engineering concepts, principles, and theories
      LINUX test experience within a lab environment
    • Pitbull operating system experience
    • Experience with the maintenance and update of relevant software process documentation and develop ad-hoc reports as needed
    • Experience with object oriented programming, system processes and scripting languages in a LINUX environment Working technical knowledge of UNIX/LINUX and windows operating systems commands and utilities
    • Versed in IT government security accreditations and certification DCID 6/3, ICD 503, NISPOM, NIST, DIACAP, RMF and other approved government IT security standards, policies and directives
    • Agile Experience
    • Demonstrate good communication skills, written and spoken and be capable of presenting technical concepts to audiences of various technical abilities
    • The ability to think creatively and communicate their ideas effectively
    • Strong technical contributions, including collaboration with multiple functional areas
    • Programming Languages: C, PHP, C++, C#, JavaScript, HTML, Web Frameworks, Shell Scripting
    • Software Tools/Apps: Rational Team Concert, GIT, Skype

    PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES
    Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
