    Bachelor's degree in Reliability, Electrical, Mechanical or Materials Engineering, or in a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.


    Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is active and transferrable at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Lead ILS (Reliability/Maintainability/Logistics) Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.



    • Reviews engineering specifications and drawings, proposing design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements
    • Advises and confers with engineers in design review meetings to give reliability and maintainability findings and recommendations
    • Analyzes engineering-design concepts of product to recommend design or test methods for attaining customer-specified operational reliability, using knowledge of reliability engineering and other technologies
    • Contributes to the completion of major programs and projects
    • Generates formal technical reports per Government standards in accordance with
    • Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) requirements
    • Generates reliability and maintainability mathematical models and predictions
    • Plans and leads the development of Reliability Program Plans for small projects
    • Performs testability analysis (BITE/Diagnostics/Prognostics) efforts for small/low complexity projects
    • Performs Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) efforts for small/low complexity projects
    • Leads Failure Review Board (FRB) on a medium sized projects
    • Performs parts stress analysis/worst case analysis efforts for small/low complexity projects
    • Develops/performs Design for Reliability (DfR) analyses (part selection, de-rating, material selections) on small products/projects
    • Leads FRACAS program on a medium sized project
    • Performs fault tree analysis for small/low complexity systems
    • Performs Pareto analysis of failure incidents/events for small and medium complexity products/systems
    • Leads/conducts root cause analysis investigation for small product/project
    • Develops root-cause tree and fishbone diagrams for small/low complexity root cause investigations
    • Applies physics of failure techniques for investigation of small/medium complexity root cause investigations
    • Plans/conducts design margin tests for small/medium complexity products/projects
    • Performs level of repair analysis for medium sized projects
    • Participates in the development of plans/procedures for Reliability Demonstration tests
    • Leads and develops plans/procedures for Reliability Demonstration tests for small/medium complexity projects/products
    • Participates in the development of plans/procedures for Maintainability Demonstration tests
    • Begins to support proposals
    • May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
    • Provides technical, schedule and budgetary inputs as required to support a project manager
    • Frequent contact with external customers and vendors
    • Frequent contact with managers within and outside of Engineering
    • Frequent contact with project teams across the company
    • Occasional contact with Business Development
    • Travel may be required
    • Security clearance may be required
    • Provides resolution to a diverse range of complex problems
    • Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause significant delays or require the substantial expenditure of resources


    • Working knowlege, understanding and experience with all DOD reliability and maintainability and ILS requirements and RCM work products.
    • Perform Maintainability and Reliability analysis and predictions. 
    • Perform Supportability Analysis
    • Familiarity with Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) development and maintenance
    • Familarity and experience with submarine systems and hardware.
    • Ability to multi-task and lead a small ILS team.Proficient ability to recognize and clearly report information relevant to sound Reliability engineering design
    • Ability to think creatively
    • Able to sell concepts and ideas
    • Proficient awareness of business objective and Engineering role in achieving business objectives
    • Full use and understanding of Reliability engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • General knowledge of other related disciplines
    • Keeps abreast of technology trends
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
    • Proficient in Reliability engineering design tools
    • Proficient in the principles and techniques of Reliability Engineering
    • Skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
    • Strong understanding of Reliability engineering processes
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills
    • Proficient understanding and ability to apply basic project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls
