  • Basic Qualifications

    Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering technology.  Engineering Interns must be enrolled in an accredited degree program in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline with a preference for a standing of a sophomore or higher.  


    Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, you must be a US citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) with a  Permanent Resident Card (PCR) or Alien Registration Receipt Card (ARRC).

      You must be able to pass the National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.


    Responsibilities for this Position


    General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an internship opportunity for a Systems Engineering Intern (Paid) in our Seabrook, MD Space Station facility. Our team is dedicated to supporting NASA program’s during their development and flight operations mission phases.  Our program’s purpose introduces the students of today to a career in the space industry.  As an intern, you will have the opportunity to support missions of high scientific value and which provide long lasting impact to the world we live in.


    As a Systems Engineering Intern (Paid) you will work and be evaluated by experienced team members, and gain insight and experience in the areas of:

    • Systems Engineering

      • Landsat Multi-satellite Operations Center (LMOC) requirements management;
      • LMOC interface definition and verification
      • LMOC design and performance verification
      • Perform LMOC engineering analysis
      • Perform test evaluation toward the delivery of the LMOC

      System Development, Integration & Test

      • LMOC releases by performing design, development, integration, test and delivery activities of the systems
      • Integration of the LMOC systems into the LMOC facilities
      • Development support through launch, commissioning, and mission transition to operations

      Landsat-9 Launch Readiness Campaign

      • LMOC/flight systems (spacecraft and instruments) operations engineering in support of all L9 mission operations readiness activities. Participation include some combination of:
          • Support for major spacecraft and instrument reviews
        • Support LMOC/flight system I&T
        • Obtain LMOC/flight segment experience through technical interchange with the LMOC/flight segment vendors
        • Train Flight Operations Team members
        • Prepares operations plans and procedures for ground/flight system operations
        • Participates in Ground Readiness Tests (GRTs), Mission Readiness Tests (MRTs), operations tests, and other pre-launch tests, simulations, and rehearsals
        • Provide ground/flight system contribution to all Contract Data Requirement Lists (CDRLs), reviews, and reports
        • Support Landsat-9 operations from launch through the mission transition to normal operations
      • Provide real-time experience in support of all Landsat-9 mission operations readiness activities. Responsibilities include some combination of:
      • Prepare operations procedures, scripts, and telemetry pages, for operations
      • Provide operations experience to all CDRLs, reviews, and reports

      On-orbit engineering support

      • Perform real-time and off-line operations activities including, but not limited to, command and control, telemetry monitoring and analysis, as well as anomaly detection, isolation, and recovery
