    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.



    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Advanced Software Configuration Management Specialist to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to support some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to deliver end-to-end solutions in configuration management (CM), product development and productivity.     Advanced Software Configuration Management Specialists are responsible for maintaining configuration management tools and supporting configuration identification, control, reporting, release and delivery of products and systems. This includes but is not limited to, evaluating Configuration Management Plans, identifying configuration identification of items (CIs), control of CIs, change control, reporting and status accounting, and release and delivery of such products and systems. This employee will perform configuration management and release engineering tasks to ensure new product operating parameters are documented, comply with standards and are logistically sustainable. The development of internal configuration standards and training others to use configuration management tools is required.


    The Advanced Software Configuration Management Specialist will be responsible for providing both Configuration Management and Data Management functions.  These responsibilities include:

    • Defines and utilizes configuration management tools to support configuration identification, control, reporting, and delivery of both internally developed and externally acquired software and hardware products
    • Facilitate/Lead Change Control Board (CCB) meetings and maintain associated information
    • Trains developers in the use of configuration management tools in support of company Configuration/Data Management policies and best practices
    • Works with others to complete analysis, evaluations and design alternatives and to implement process improvements
    • Provide CM task specific input to proposals
    • Evaluate program-specific CM plans
    • Manage the program-specific document repository and field user questions
    • Incorporate CCB changes into associated CM documentation
    • Create and maintain As Built Lists (ABLs) from BOM structures
    • Perform ABL hardware audit verifications prior to equipment sell-off Process definition for Configuration Management
    • Maintain schedule tracking of CM related activities on assigned Program
    • Maintain and make available records of all hardware audits performed
    • Administer Unique Identifiers (UIDs)
    • Assign and maintain serial numbers
    • Generate and provide updates to various internal and external status reports
    • Attend and support peer reviews & use of the peer review tool
    • Perform drawing audits
    • Administer the change control database
    • Provide configuration control of software, hardware and documentation
    • Liaison between GDMS CM, NSWCDD CM and Navy customers
    • Liaison between GDMS CM and manufacturing
    • Provide program guidance and support deliveries and milestones while maintaining schedules
    • Provide configuration status accounting
    • Support configuration audits
    • Support baseline deliveries of software and shipment of media
    • Manage and deliver items on the Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL)
    • Manage and deliver hardware drawings
    • Monitor incentive metrics
    • Communicate proper configuration management process steps and tool usage
