  • Basic Qualifications

    Associate's degree in related discipline or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience and soldering.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. The selected applicant will be subject to random drug screening in accordance with contract requirements.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Engineering Technician.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Supports engineering activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electro mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices or specialized test equipment
    • Performs a variety of equipment/process operations involving an application or technical skills in a specific area (electrical, software, manufacturing, optical, etc.)
    • Performs research and engineering laboratory functions that may include but not be limited to:
      • Layout, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and modification or electronic or electro- mechanical devices, assemblies, subsystems, and systems
      • Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems
      • Calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed
      • Prepares prescribed compounds and solutions
      • Construct, modify, debug, test and adjust a variety of tools and equipment given appropriate drawings, parts and instructions
      • Implements basic practical solutions for process improvement
      • Conducts and documents experiments under guidance of senior technician
      • Constructs basis tooling and fixtures to accomplish unique tasks
      • Organizes data to identify cause/effect relationships and recommends resolution/process improvement
      • Perform routine/basic preventative maintenance tasks
    • Works from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions
    • Installs (solder or assemble) components on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs)
    • Reworks PCBs, removing or replacing components
    • Read and Interpret blueprints and drawing
    • Perform single task for extended periods of time
    • Work with different types of chemicals (cements, epoxies, etc.)
    • Work with microscope and magnifiers most time of the day
    • Escorts vendors when required
    • Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format
    • Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed
    • Works under general supervision and instructions for routine work
    • Detailed instructions given for new activities or special assignments


    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Substantial acquaintance with an understanding of general aspects of the job with a broad understanding of the detailed aspects of the job
    • Ability to follow established procedures on routine work, requires instructions only on new assignments
    • Willingness to work with contacts within own department and occasionally with contacts outside own organization
    • Ability to focus on completing tasks or activities supporting implementation of procedures
    • Fundamental knowledge and proficiency in the use of related tools and equipment 
    • Ability to install hardware on assemblies, components and parts per documentation
    • Ability to read, understand, and interpret all documentation related to PCB Assembly, quality control specifications, IPC 610 certification, blue print drawings and engineering specifications
    • Ability to use quality related measuring equipment and all hand tools required for PCB Assembly
    • Possess a J-STD-001 Certification (preferrred) or the ability to demonstrate Soldering skills necessary to pass J-STD-001 certification
    • Posess IPC-A-610 certificate (preferred) or the ability to complete IPC-A-610 certification and can complete a IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies certification with the following additional modules
      • Hardware Install
      • Soldering/HV
      • Terminals
      • Through Hole
      • Surface Mount
      • PCBs/Assemblies, Component Damage
      • Wire Wrap
    • Be able to unsolder/solder Micro Ball Gate Array (BGA) components
    • Experience with the use of a Solder Station
    • Ability to work using a microscope to unsolder/solder components
    • Recognizes need for and seeks out additional technical assistance/information when needed
    • Computer and test equipment knowledge
    • Consistently displays high performance attributes
    • Influential with others and demonstrates superior communication and collaborative skills consistent with expectations for position
