    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Windows Systems Administrator working closely with the Compute Services Wintel team. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    Key Responsibilities:
    As a member of the Windows Server Administration team within the Mission Systems Information Technology (IT) organization, the Windows System administrator will be responsible for the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of Windows server machines within the environment.  This role works closely with Application owners to ensure timely deployment and high availability of applications, as well as with the Cloud Services team to optimize the performance of virtualized servers within the infrastructure.


    •Responsible for managing the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems
    •Maintains the integrity and security of servers and systems
    •Serves as a front line interface to users with technical issues
    •Makes recommendations for hardware and software purchases
    •Interacts with third-party technology vendors and internal database staff
    •Conducts systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies
    •Duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users
    The Server System Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day support of Server services
    •Performs Server administration for Server Operating Systems
    •Performs administration of physical and virtualized servers
    •Responsible for the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of physical and virtual hardware
    •Configures, maintains and troubleshoots network related interfaces on servers
    •Performs OS and vendor software patching on servers
    •Monitors Physical and Virtual Servers performance using monitoring tools
    •Performs, maintains, troubleshoots and does analysis of alerts on Servers
    •Performs administration of physical and virtualized servers using industry standard technologies
    •Performs administration of servers in lab environments that are physical and virtualized using industry standard technologies

    •Broad application of principles, theories, and concepts in applicable discipline, plus working knowledge of other related fields
    •Provides resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems
    •Uses judgment within defined policies and practices

    •Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met

    •Requires a solid understanding of Servers based operating systems

    •Analytical and problem solving skills
    •Troubleshooting skills within the Servers OS as well as both networking and storage technologies

    •Performs Windows Server administration including Server 2008, 2012 and 2016 Operating Systems
    •Demonstrated knowledge of configuring, managing and troubleshooting Active Directory, Domain Structures, Group Policy, Antivirus, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, DFS and basic Networking
    •Configures, maintains and troubleshoots physical hardware including Dell and UCS servers, both rack mounted and blade
    •Familiarity with Remedy tickets system
    •Understand s and can execute Disaster Recovery Plan
    •Understand scripting working knowledge of Powershell to automate repetitive processes
    •Works with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with Windows Servers
    •Performs administration of virtualized Windows servers via VMware vSphere and VMware vSphere web client
    •Performs analysis and logging of Splunk alerts
    •Monitors system and VM performance using Solarwinds or similar tools
    •Performs periodic patching and Remediation of servers based on recommended patch sets
    •Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills

    Desired but optional:
    •Working knowledge with data center level backup systems & software, data storage solutions and legacy data center hardware/software solutions
    •Strong troubleshooting skills within the Windows OS as well as network and storage
    •Familiarity with VMware enterprise products as they pertain to administration of hosted Windows server Virtual Machines
    •Working knowledge of RSA & Entrust
    •Working knowledge of MS SCCM for patching
    •Working knowledge of Agile concepts
