  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

     

    The Mid-Level Embedded Developer shall have at least five (5) years of work experience in three (3) or more of the following:

    • Developing embedded software systems in assembly C, C++, or Java
    • Developing embedded software systems for Unix, Linux, Windows, VxWorks, JunOS, or vendor-proprietary operating systems
    • Experience with operating system internals for Unix, Linux, Windows, VxWorks, JunOS, or vendor-proprietary operating systems
    • Reverse engineering and analysis of software
    • Low-level programming of device drivers in a Unix, Linux, or Windows environment
    • Bit-level data analysis
    • Systems engineering of large scale embedded systems

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance with a Polygraph is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

     

     

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Mid-Level Embedded Developer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

    The Mid-Level Embedded Developer shall have a minimum of a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or Computer Engineering and a minimum of six (6) years of software/system development work experience (Four (4) years of equivalent related military experience may be substituted for Bachelor degree); or a Master’s of Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or Computer Engineering with a minimum of four (4) years of experience; and have technical expertise in two (2) or more of the following areas:

    • Systems Requirements Analysis
    • Software System Design
    • Software System Development
    • Software System Integration
    • Software System Testing

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Analyzes, decomposes, disassembles code, performs static code analysis, kernel-level debugging, and debugs and modifies software
    • Work often involves software operating systems, malware or electronic signals
    • Typically programs in both C and assembly language
    • Involved in Protocol Analysis, Vulnerability Assessment, Security Research, Rapid Prototyping of proof of concept capabilities
    • Conducts vulnerability assessments and penetration testing utilizing reverse engineering techniques
    • Performs analysis of complex software systems to determine both functionality and intent of software systems
    • Contributes to the design, development and implementation of countermeasures, system integration, and tools specific to Cyber and Information Operations
    • May prepare and presents technical reports and briefings
    • May perform documentation, vetting and weaponization of identified vulnerabilities for operational use
    • This is the career level in many professional specialties

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Highly proficient knowledge of operating system fundamentals (interrupts, threading, virtual memory, device drivers) and internals (memory layouts and management, binary file formats)
    • Requires highly proficient knowledge and exposure to computer processor architectures and instructions sets
    • Highly proficient ability to perform all responsibilities associated with the position
    • Highly proficient ability to grasp and apply new information quickly
    • Highly proficient ability to handle more complex assignments
    • Shows highly proficient initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
    • Highly proficient ability to use scripting languages such as Python, Perl, bash
    • Highly proficient knowledge in low-level programming of device drivers in a Unix, Linux or Windows environment
