  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense TS/SCI with Poly security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Satellite Ground Terminal Engineer to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to support and maintain cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services.     REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for a Satellite Ground Terminal
    • Review and interpret technical documentation on how the Ground Terminal Operates and interfaces with the rest of the system
    • Analyze abnormal or reoccurring system alarms and direct operator responses
    • Work with Operational and Factory Engineering teammates to ensure end-to-end system availability and integrity; creating system Work Arounds as needed.
    • Track preventative and routine maintenance of the Ground Terminals electronic and electromechanical equipment
    • Capture metrics on the equipment and the operational performance of the Ground Terminal
    • Sample Radio Frequency Signals with the assistance of sophisticated test equipment
    • Serve as an on-call Engineer for overall system, approximately every 6 weeks; Off-hours contingency recovery support for Ground Terminal, as needed.
    • Able to respond to and follows-up on system problems reports; to ensure the problem reports are resolved, approved by the customer pre closure, and closed out within the problem report system.

     

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

     

    • Detailed knowledge of Satellite Ground Station Infrastructures; ie. up/down frequency converters, modems, multiplexers, ranging systems, timing and frequency distribution, HPAs, ADCs/DACs, HVAC, Digital Signal Processors (DSP), etc.
    • Able to use and understand engineering concepts, principles, and theories to identify, analyze, and solve technical issues
    • Experience with configuring routers, switches, and TT&C signal processing hardware and software
    • Understanding of how the integration, validation, and verification of software and hardware are performed
    • Strong situational awareness
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Able to work in a team and independent work environment
    • Effective in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions

     

     

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

     

    • 5 years of experience with Satellite Ground systems;
    • 2 years of experience working with telecommunications/signal processing equipment
    • Experience using Linux or Compass
