    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Manager of Internal Communications.  The position provides an opportunity to lead a team of professionals in developing and executing meaningful and impactful internal communications campaigns and programs to develop a culture of operational and people excellence, improve employee engagement and help employees understand the goals and objectives of the business and how they align with our customers.  As part of the Strategic Communications leadership team the Internal Communications manager will help to enhance the performance and profitability of our organization, which supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services. 

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Develops and implements enterprise communication strategies and programs to communicate the company’s business objectives, culture and values to its employees
    • Partners with executive management, Public Affairs, Human Resources, lines of business and other departments to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate strategic internal communications
    • Designs, writes, edits and oversees distribution of internal communication materials, via intranet, emails/memos, video, executive presentations, print collateral, etc.
    • Develops standards and guidelines for style and content for the company intranet
    • Provides guidance to executive management regarding corporate announcements and communication strategy for high-impact events
    • Manages and maintain company intranet; approving all homepage content and design changes
    • Provides organizational change management communications support for large-scale change
    • Often requires short time-line projects and deadlines to meet the needs of the business
    • Manages communications portfolio of all short-term and long-term communication plans for each organization and the president
    • Evaluates effectiveness of communication plan delivery through comprehensive metrics and measures
    • Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures to create greater efficiencies
    • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends
    • Develops and administers schedules, performance requirements; may have budget responsibilities
    • Develops and tracks budgets and schedules; communicate with team members, partner organizations and clients to deliver products that meet or exceed expectations
    • Assists with crisis planning and communication; act as communication crisis contact as necessary and organizational administrator for the GDMS Emergency Notification system
    • Assists with planning and implementing sensitive communications, such as acquisition, reduction-in-force and divesture communication
    • Develops campaigns and long-term initiatives to communicate company priorities and goals
    • Creates and oversees internal projects to advance and elevate the capabilities and offerings of the Internal Communications team
    • Develops and fosters relationship with other General Dynamics business units
    • Identifies and works to develop new and innovative communication channels

    • Strong written communication for a variety of mediums (email, web, speech, presentation, script) Deep knowledge of the enterprise and industry business
    • Deep knowledge of principles of effective employee engagement
    • Superior project management and delegation skills
    • Ability to work independently and direct the work of others
    • In depth knowledge of a variety of communication vehicles, mediums and channels and how to choose those most effective for given communication needs
    • Comfortable and effective at recommending communication solutions to people of all levels, from executives and managers to field-based personnel; ability to influence without authority
    • Able to develop and engage team members to create a high impact team
