  • Basic Qualifications

    Associate's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:  Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.  Secret Clearance is not required at the time of Hire but candidate may be required to become certified in the first 2 years of employment.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Sr. Advanced Development Lab test and Inspection Technician.  The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • This position is a hands-on position testing and inspecting products made in the Development Lab.
    • In slow periods this person may be asked to work as a manufacturing tech building products.
    • Participates and leads in continuous improvement activities
    • Interacts with engineering for test development and drawing enhancements
    • Continually explores new computer software tools, and hard tooling for process improvements
    • Supports manufacturing system administration tasks
    • Performs work requiring independent evaluation, selection and application of standard engineering techniques and procedures
    • Working from defined parameters, enhances the work performed by the technicians through test and inspection.
    • May develop rough layouts or sketches giving critical information regarding dimensions and construction of a unit or process
    • Compiles technical reports and other technical documentation as required
    • May coordinate designs with manufacturing engineering to ensure the practicality of the design and to assist in the solution of production difficulties encountered in manufacturing
    • Troubleshoots and modifies products manufactured in the Lab.
    • Will develop and maintain test and Inspection process procedures/instructions to define the proper sequence, tooling, equipment, and methods
    • Researches previous test and Inspection approaches and provides recommendations for improvements
    • Seeks technical advice from more senior engineers on the more difficult projects
    • Acts as the Lab Test and Inspection lead in offsite (field) activities.
    • May install, qualify, maintain, and repair line manufacturing equipment.
    • Requires meeting established manufacturing or engineering schedules (as applicable), working within cost parameters and adherence to design specifications
    • Communicates with internal customers including manufacturing support manager, production personnel, coach, operations manager, engineering
    • Regular contact with quality assurance, material, manufacturing personnel
    • Normally works under the guidance of a more senior engineer or manufacturing technician

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Distinct knowledge of computer software applications used in a manufacturing environment
    • Distinct problem solving and decision making skills
    • Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
    • Requires technical evaluation skills, and basic manufacturing engineering knowledge
    • Planning abilities
    • Creative thinking
    • Distinct ability to provide limited direction to other specialists and / or associates
    • Active IPC 620 certification a plus
    • Active IPC 610 certification a plus
    • J-STD-001 certification or background is helpful
