  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 0 years of relevant experience.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Fire Control Operational Support Project Manager.  In this position, the successful candidate will work directly with the Fire Control Sustainment Team including Sustainment Program Managers, Fleet Support, Logistics, Reliability and Maintainability, Fleet Data Maintenance and other personnel who provide sustainment expertise to our Trident II Fleet. The Fire Control Project Manager will learn and implement sound program management techniques, as well as gain a broad perspective of the Fire Control Programs. He/she will be responsible for overall program performance, and will develop strong relationships with the SSP Customer.

    The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  As a Fire Control Project Manager in General Dynamics Mission Systems, you will work closely with our Strategic Systems Programs customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Develops a cohesive project plan, authorizes the work, and manages cost, schedule and technical performance of operational support projects and tasks
    • Assists the PM and Sr. PM in establishing business and workload forecasts
    • Coordinates amongst various departments to ensure that projects are completed on schedule and within budget
    • Leads cross-functional project teams in matrix organization to achieve schedule, cost, and technical performance objectives
    • Identifies issues, tracks progress, and follows through on corrective actions
    • Supports customers on questions regarding operational support tasks
    • Prepares and presents project status to leadership
    • Prepares and presents project status to the Customer
    • Leads team to identify and quantify risks and opportunities; leads risk mitigation / opportunity capture activities
    • Develops and executes proposal plans and strategies for assigned projects



    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Demonstrated ability to quickly understand technical problems and to gain technical understanding of Fire Control and associated equipment


    Experience in work estimating, allocation, scheduling, and authorization and ability to track the work to ensure task completion


    Very solid ability to:

    • generate cohesive project plans
    • identify issues, track progress, and follow through on effective corrective actions based on data analysis and trends
    • understand and analyze project financial data
    • understand the fundamentals of risk and opportunity management and ability to apply them to projects
    • lead teams in matrix organization to achieve schedule, cost, and technical performance objectives
    • communicate clearly, both written and verbal
    • make sound, proactive decisions
    • develop and execute proposal plans and strategies


    Demonstrated knowledge of MS Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint


    Ability to travel is required

    PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field and 2 years related experience, or

    Master’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
