  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.


    Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is within 12 months of time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Mid-Level Analog / Subsystem Design Electrical Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    Substantial contribution to electrical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. timing, power, etc.), design, integration and verification of electrical components, equipment and systems
    Plans and leads electrical engineering root cause analysis for electrical issues, conducts experimental tests, evaluates results to formulate and implement solutions to issues
    Contributes to the generation and maintenance of electrical work products (i.e. plans, specifications, design documentation, etc.) used for internal consumption and/or deliverable to external customers
    Develops and presents electrical requirements, concepts, designs, decisions and results to internal management and external customers
    May contribute to technical subcontract management that may include technical oversight and subcontractor work product evaluation
    Substantial contribution to electrical reviews of electrical components, equipment and systems
    Evaluates vendor capability to support product development
    Participation in the improvement of the electrical organizational processes
    Supports the generation of engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycle
    Contributes to the research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
    Selects components and equipment based on analysis of requirements
    May provide leadership and/or direction to lower level employees
    Independently determines approach to solutions
    Plans and executes project tasks for activities described above
    Generally works with multiple work groups, including with senior levels of l work groups
    Generally works on diverse range of complex problems under limited direction
    Generally has regular Contact with project leaders and Program Managers. Generally has Some contact with external customers
    Failure to accomplish results or errors may cause significant delays or require the substantial expenditure of resources

    Key Responsibilities
    The Mid-Level Analog / Subsystem Design Electrical Engineer will lead the design, development and test of electrical components as well as subsystem-level designs at GDMS that are required to support our various customers’ missions.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Be a leader within the electrical engineering design group that develops Hardware Configuration Items and Subsystem Level electrical design
    • Provide guidance and status to IPT Leads on development of Electrical components and subsystem designs.
    • Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance
    • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customer's changing business needs
    • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the GDMS culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures
    • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure GDMS services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices
    • Interface with vendors for product development
    • Interface with other GDMS engineering disciplines
    • Provide direction/support to Manufacturing as required
    • Attend formal design reviews as both a Presenter and Reviewer
    • Interface with the local Navy office
    • Occasional required travel to Field Sites


    Candidate for this position must possess the following qualifications:

    • Strong knowledge of analog component level electrical design (Required)
    • Strong knowledge of subsystem level electrical design (Required)
    • Strong knowledge of qualification of both analog components and subsystems (Required)
    • Proficiency in usage of PSPICE (Required)
    • Proven Leadership of small teams (2-5 people) (Required)
    • Able to work in teams (Required)
    • Strong Communications Skills (Required)
    • Familiarity with the Trident program (Desirable)
    • Requirements development, verification and documentation (Desirable)
    • DOORS knowledge (Desirable)
