  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

     

    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

     

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Advanced Test Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

     

    The Execution and Planning Lead (EPL) will be required to manage all GDMS support operations on board ship. They will provide all leadership for GDMS personnel supporting post- delivery tasking in the Mobile. They will be required to interact directly with the ship’s command and program leadership and provide daily progress status of all GDMS activities. They will be required to develop work packages and detailed work schedules. They will be responsible for setting out a timeline to accomplish all assigned tasking and accommodate emergent work when possible. The EPL will manage all activities within the allowed budgets and report progress to program and engineering personnel. They will be expected to schedule and manage all personnel and activities supporting the post- delivery completion of ship’s testing, tasked emergent work and planned maintenance activities. This person will provide labor and material estimates to support development of quotes and Rough Orders of Magnitude (ROM), estimates. This individual may be required to provide support and oversite of third party vendors engaged on the ship conducting work on GDMS systems. They are expected to attend and represent GDMS at senior leadership planning, production and test meetings.   This person will support GDMS resource planning meetings to accurately match staffing and material requirements to the operational plan.   The Execution and Planning Lead will be required to develop technical and engineering solutions and provide design feedback to the engineering communities on the program. They will be required to directly support the LCS DPME and Program Managers.   They will support the management of ship’s new construction testing, the development of the new construction DD250 document and associate work packages. The will be responsible for the completion and closure of the open DD250 line items following delivery of the vessel while in Mobile. This is a position that can be high stress where often times demands are immediate while supply is often not. The qualified candidate will have experience and ability to handle these stressors and frustrations and continue to function in a high performing manner.



    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    This individual must have a demonstrated knowledge of engineering or have a minimum of 5 years combined experience in US Navy new construction shipbuilding and/or fleet introduction programs. The Execution and Planning Lead must be able to quickly adapt to the needs of Post Delivery Test and Trials program. They must possess and demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of integration, installation, operations, maintenance and testing of Hull Machinery & Electrical, Combat and Communication systems used in US Naval programs. This individual must have strong oral and written communication skills and be proficient with typical PC applications to include Word, Project, Excel and Access.   Must be able to hold a secret clearance and qualify for a courier authorization.

     

    Preferred and demonstrated skills:

    • Professional etiquette and ability to operate effectively in a distributed team environment and effectively communicate customer initiatives, strategy and mission needs.
    • Familiar with US Naval protocol and the ability to work directly with interfaces in uniform within the required structure
    • Effectively communicate site problems concerns and observations to program management in a timely manner.

    Superior organizational and prioritization skills.
