  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

     

    Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Systems Engineer, SATCOM. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Ability to provide guidance on the Installation and repair of SATCOM equipment
    • Troubleshoots customer technical problems and issues, determines a technical solution, and recommends actions to company or customer representatives for coordinative product solution.
    • Conducts technical training and product briefing with customers, vendors and company representatives.
    • Contributes to SATCOM RF Communication systems design efforts
    • Diagnoses and repairs mechanical, hardware, software and systems failures using established procedures
    • Perform complex technical evaluation and resolve critical technical problems on fielded systems
    • Demonstrates the capability to have subject matter expertise for satellite communications systems
    • Performs evaluations of satellite systems, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable government SATCOM standards
    • Performs requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification),
    • Performs customer requirements analysis, develops system requirements and defines allocations to lower levels (elements and components)
    • Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
    • Contributes to the completion of major programs and projects, including presenting system engineering/system design criteria to the end customer.
    • Plans and executes project tasks for activities described above
    • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
    • Regular contact with senior levels of internal work groups
    • Works under limited direction
    • Contact with Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and other professionals within the Engineering department and with project teams across the company
    • Contact with external customers on a regular basis
    • Travel required up to 30%.
    • Security clearance may be required
    • Contributes to the achievement of business objectives.


    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Strong use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
    • Knowledge of Satellite Antenna Communications
    • Knowledge of radio frequency engineering
    • Strong knowledge of other related disciplines
    • Strong proficiency with requirements management & system modeling tools
    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
    • Strong written and verbal communications skills
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Effective in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
    • Strong ability to clearly report information relevant to sound systems engineering design
    • Strong understanding of basic project leadership principles
