  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

     

    Clearance Requirements:

    Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Candidates must be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior ASIC FPGA Engineer.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

    • Responsible for definition, design, verification and documentation for ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) and/or FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) developments
    • Determines architecture, system simulation and detailed design approach
    • Defines module interfaces and all aspects of devise design and simulation
    • Evaluates the process flow including but not limited to high level design, synthesis, place and route, timing and power utilization
    • Creates test and simulation plans that establish functional criteria
    • Verifies test results and analyzes performance
    • May also review vendor capabilities, foundry technologies, device libraries and simulation tools

      KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Considerably proficient and able to perform all responsibilities associated with the position
    • Grasps and applies new information quickly
    • Considerable ability to handle more complex assignments
    • Shows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little direction
    • Considerable use of ASIC/FPGA concepts, principles, and theories
    • Considerable understanding of ASIC/FPGA engineering processes
    • Keeps abreast of technology trends in ASIC/FPGA
    • Considerable awareness of business objectives and Engineering's role in achieving
    • Considerable knowledge in Microsoft Office applications
    • Considerable knowledge in ASIC/FPGA design tools
    • Considerable written and verbal communications skills
    • Ability to think creatively
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Considerable skill in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
    • Considerable understanding of basic earned value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and
    • Variance Report generation
    • Considerable ability to recognize and clearly report information relevant to sound ASIC/FPGA design

      PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Be able to effectively and efficiently work with other team members to include other IC design and verification engineers, systems engineers, software engineers, project managers, customers and suppliers.
    • Possess experience in implementing novel DSP algorithms efficiently into Xilinx FPGA structures or ASIC custom logic.
    • Have knowledge of Polyphase Filter, Finite Impulse Response (FIR) Filter, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)/Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) design structures.
