  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.


    Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.  Applicant must be able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance after hire.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Systems Engineer supporting the development of the Ballistic Missile Defense System.  This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


    General Dynamics Mission Systems in Huntsville, Alabama requires a Senior Systems Engineer with a strong background in Systems Engineering with any of the following: system concept trade studies, system performance analysis and numerical modeling and simulation, operational analysis, requirements analysis, feasibility analysis, and system performance measures of effectiveness analysis (incl. technical performance measures). Good written and oral communications skills and the ability to work independently and in a small team environment are required.


    Candidate will join a product team that performs systems analyses of the existing BMDS architecture in conjunction with new technologies and concepts to be considered for future BMDS architectures. Candidate will use technical skills to analyze and predict performance of current and future BMDS capabilities threats.




    Individual must demonstrate knowledge in several of the following capabilities: technical requirements development, systems architecture development, Electronic Warfare (EA/EP), radar analysis, Radar analysis, developing algorithms to solve complex problems, modeling and simulation, kinematic physics (ballistic/non-ballistic trajectories), MATLAB, C/C++, statistical analysis, and / or Linux.  Individual must possess good communication skills.  Candidate must be capable of working both independently and in a team environment.  Current Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS clearance.


    • Electronic Warfare (EW) [Electronic Attack (EA) and Electronic Protection (EP)]
    • Six degree of freedom (6 DOF) M&S
    • Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems, to include performing trade studies and analysis of alternatives
    • Remote sensing
    • Machine learning (neural networks, genetic algorithms, etc.)
    • Evaluating future technologies, assessing risks, capability readiness and technology gaps 
    • Experience with some of the BMDS elements and threat environment; for example: Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Fire Control (FOM, GFC), C2BMC, BMDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures, and counter-countermeasures. 
    • Substantial proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
    • Substantial written and verbal communications skills
    • Proficient with architecture tools such as “System Architect”, “Rhapsody”, or “Magic Draw.”
    • Proficient with the use of DOORS.
    • Substantial skills in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
    • Substantial ability to clearly report information relevant to sound systems engineering design


    Degree and experience in an engineering classification, mathematics or physics: Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD.
