  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree. Agile experience preferred

     


    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Department of Defense Secret security clearance is desired at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Project Engineer.  The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

    GDMS operates, maintains, upgrades, and sustains the installed U.S. Radionuclide Particulate and the Radionuclide Noble Gas systems and station infrastructure to support the US monitoring effort as part of the International Monitoring System (IMS). The International Monitoring System (IMS) was established to detect worldwide nuclear weapons tests by an extensive monitoring network that includes seismic, infrasound, hydro-acoustic and radionuclide monitoring stations supporting the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

     

    The successful candidate will manage and execute multimillion-dollar recapitalization efforts supporting US government projects. Primary responsibilities include working effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, interfacing with vendors and stakeholders, and managing the design-build construction process of the project. The candidate must have excellent organizational skill and be self-motived to ensure project meets contractual and financial goals. Additionally, the Project Engineer will:

    • Coordinate and track multiyear construction projects at four OCONUS sites, including Oahu and Guam
    • Have in-depth knowledge of MEP systems design
    • Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan
    • Provides interpretation of plans and specifications
    • Plans, monitors, and controls assigned tasks or projects in accordance with current company policies, common processes
    • Identify and quantify risks and develop mitigation strategy
    • Manage and establishing positive working relationships with vendors, subcontractors and/or program stakeholders
    • Supports Project Manager and team as needed

     

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Candidates must show a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of technical systems and applications, and ability to manage, grow and evolve GDMS solutions effectively. Preferred qualifications include:

    • Experience managing remote projects – especially construction on government land and/or military installations
    • Experience with logistics and transportation requirements for OCONUS military or USG locations
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment
    • Demonstrated experience estimating materials and labor, allocating resources, and tracking scheduling
    • Demonstrated experience generating and reviewing cohesive project plans
    • Experience with the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty or other Arms Control treaties is highly desired
    • Experience with gamma spectroscopy a major plus
