  • Basic Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Reliability, Electrical, Mechanical or Materials Engineering, or in a related technical field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.


    Department of Defense SECRET security clearance is required at time of hire, however a Top Secret clearance is strongly preferred. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

    Responsibilities for this Position

    General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Reliability Engineer.  The engineer will perform analyses for reliability, maintainability and testability that factor into a preferred test configuration to ensure mission success. The RAM&T engineer will be expected to engage with industry partners to influence design concepts for reliability and coordinate with other Missile Defense Agency teams to accomplish the verification of Ballistic Missile Defense System requirement; identify reliability design standards and practices for implementation on product development; prepare technical reports; compile technical data for briefings and present technical results to a broad variety of audiences. The engineer will also support system level test design, ensuring test objectives and scenarios represent the BMDS requirements and are testable. Occasional travel required


    Reviews engineering specifications and drawings, proposing design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements
    Advises and confers with engineers in design review meetings to give reliability and maintainability findings and recommendations
    Analyzes engineering-design concepts of product to recommend design or test methods for attaining customer-specified operational reliability, using knowledge of reliability engineering and other technologies
    Generates formal technical reports per Government standards in accordance with Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) requirements
    Generates reliability and maintainability mathematical models and predictions
    Plans and leads the development of Reliability Program Plans for large projects
    Develops System/product reliability models for large/high complexity projects
    Performs testability analysis efforts for large/high complexity projects
    Performs Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) efforts for large/high complexity projects
    Performs parts stress analysis/worst case analysis efforts for large/high complexity projects
    Develops/performs Design for Reliability (DfR) analyses (part selection, de-rating, material selections) on large/high complexity products/projects
    Leads FRACAS program on a large project
    Performs fault tree analysis for large/high complexity systems
    Leads/conducts root cause analysis investigation for large/high complexity products/projects
    Develops root cause tree and fishbone diagrams for large/high complexity root cause investigations
    Applies physics of failure techniques for investigation of large/high complexity root cause investigations
    Plans/conducts design margin tests for large/high complexity products/projects
    May supervise or provide direction to lower level employees
    Provides technical, schedule and budgetary inputs as required to support a project manager
    Frequent contact with external customers and vendors
    Travel may be required
    Works performed without appreciable direction
    Provides resolution to a diverse range of complex problems which require the use of ingenuity and creativity
    May function in a project leadership role
    Erroneous decisions or recommendations may result in failure to achieve organization objectives
